The monsters inc. Playset lets you walk through the different jobs that mike and sulley had at monsters inc. Beginning with the slide out mailroom on the bottom you can drop in and sort the two scare canisters and three-Piece of mail by placing a figure on the disk and rotating it. A cafeteria is located around the back as well for their next job. Also included are a garbage can, broom and dustpan representing time in maintenance. On the left side of the set a platform will rotate out that contains the door repair area and on the right will be a cda observation deck. Also in the set is the scare floor where you can see the doors moving through the factory on the back wall (driven by a disk on the top of package). When you remove a door and place it into its station the station will automatically clamp the door. Place a scare canister on the holder, rotate the disk and watch it fill. Move it to the other side of the factory and you can empty the canister into a large canister, which will fill with the turn of another disk. Included are the playset, mike, sulley, 4 doors, 2 scare canisters, 3-Piece of mail, garbage can, dustpan, broom and 4 figure disk activations.

The first day she just sorta looked at it. It is not as interactive as one would think, at the start. But soon, my three year old was playing with it moderately. It seems that once you get down to it, there is a lot of activity here that one will not easily find in other toys of the genre. It just takes a bit to notice it. Once she gets into it, she does play with it just a little longer than her Dora house. Of course, I guess Dora and the guy with the big eye do sorta get along.
The durability cannot be beat. Don't tell anyone, but on the second the third day we had it, it fell down several stairs out our house and nothing broke.
Over all, this is a toy. Who cares about the educational value of it? I don't. Sure, it helps with fine motor skills and name/face/character recognition along with imagination -- carrying the story along but only genetics will make your child a super genius, not a toy -- not even a toy as fun as this one.
Immediately she realized that she could easily combine her figures and sets together for a fortress of entertainment that takes us our entire coffee table. It wasn't long before Robin was speeding after the Joker on a motorbike through the Monsters Inc. Scare Factory. But that's what playtime and imagination are all about, and in that respect, this set really delivers. Imaginext toys are durable and of a high quality. They're also fun and intricate and encourage shared playtime between parents and children. I enjoy getting down on the floor and playing around with elaborate, creative sets such as this Scare Factory.
With lots of doors and accessories, plus two key figures (Mike and Sulley, of course), there's plenty to keep a child occupied and content without demanding additional figures. This is the kind of set, sort of like the Star Wars Ewok Village I had as a kid in the 1980s, that really inspires creativity and takes a long time for little hands and little eyes to explore. Another great product from Imaginext that my daughter thoroughly enjoys!
It was cute seeing him reference from the movie, but he didn't linger long with the set after the first couple of days.
He keeps talking about it and occasionally rearranges the figures, but doesn't sit and intensely play.
A couple of pieces of the set keep popping off when he uses it, but I'm not sure why/how as they're a pain to put back on.
Overall, if you have a FAN of Monsters Inc, then this will likely be a prized toy.
If not, then it will likely become a dust collector.
It comes with 4 doors. A white and green door which are inter-changeable and are plastic. My only problem is the brown and red door are not plastic and are cardboard and will be bent and ripped probably within a few minutes by a 2 and 5 year old. In the Amazon picture they look plastic, by they are cardboard.
UPDATE 2/22/2015: I wanted to come back and say that the red and brown door where inside of the package and both brown and red doors are plastic. There are four interchangeable doors total and two of them you could see without opening the package, and the cardboard ones where next to the plastic ones that you could see. The remaining two plastic doors where inside of the package and after we opened the package I realized they where all plastic. Sorry for my first/ above review. However, my kids played with this toy once since Christmas. Both of my boys like the movie Monsters Inc. and I thought they would enjoy this toy, but they didn't really get into this toy as much as I thought they would. I would recommend this toy if your child is really into Monsters Inc. But if they only like the movie and that is about it I would continue looking for something they would enjoy more. This toy did not hold their attention.
