Masen Crisfield fell in love with Booth Jones when she was sixteen years old. Booth was the love of her life. The rock she needed to get her through the day. Then she rips his heart out while he’s deployed, leaving him wondering just what he’d done to warrant something so severe as a breakup that neither of them wanted.

Stubbornness is their middle name, and ten long years pass before either one of them try to breach the gap.

Circumstances force Booth to come home, and within an hour of him being back in his home town, there she is. Right back in the forefront of his mind where he knows she shouldn’t be.

The day he starts his first civilian job at Kilgore Fire Department, his worst fear of seeing Masen is realized. And not only does he see her, but he sees her with another man. A fellow firefighter that he has to trust with his life.

It soon becomes apparent that they are both still just as much in love with each other now as they were the moment they met. But there’s a problem. Booth’s married, and Masen’s in a committed relationship.

They fight the pull with everything they have, but they’re both about to learn the true meaning of flash point as their lives crash together. Their love consuming everything in it’s path.

Another hit from the talented Lani who seems to not be able to do know wrong. Booth and Masen are so perfect for each other even after time wasted. Masen facing a terrible time in her life broke up with Booth and regretted it soon after. Booth who's devastated and hurt ignores all attempts she made to ask for forgiveness. Ten years later both are still stubborn as all get out but can't deny the chemistry between them. This is a story that will have you feeling so many emotions from laughter to sorrow and so much more. Each book of Lani's weaves it own spell and wraps you up in her special brand of magic that's just as addictive as the alphas she writes. If you're in need of a series with characters that you can relate to, chemistry to melt you and laughter when you're feeling down then pick this book up.

Every new book I read of Lani's gets better and better. Sweet with some type of tragic situation, her stories seem so real because of her richly rounded characters. This is the story of MASEN and BOOTH. They have been in love since Masen was 16 and he was 18. From love to heartache to angst to terror, this story has it all including their HEA!!!

HASH(0xa080890c) out of 5 stars 5 Stars! Emotional, funny & sexy - Vale at her best! June 3 2016
By Danielle - Published on

“I’ve loved you for so long that I don’t even know how to love someone else.”

Just as surely as the calendar flips forward to start anew each month, the first week of each month fans of Lani Lynn Vale get her next book. This month Vale takes us back to Kilgore to see the next member of the Kilgore Fire Department get his happily ever after. This book is already causing a bit of a stir as there is concern because the hero is (was??) married. With unwavering conviction, I can unequivocally state that Lani Lynn Vale will NEVER, EVER give her readers a hero who cheats. So, go ahead and read this book, but do it knowing that there are lots of different reasons people marry, and some of those reasons have nothing to do with love or attraction but everything to do with compassion and empathy.

“My heart was literally breaking into a million tiny pieces.”

As I started reading this book, I knew before the prologue was over that I was hooked in deep with Booth and Masen. Masen was in high school when they met, Booth is the only man she’s ever loved, and Masen is it for Booth. Their relationship came to a head at a point where everything was crashing down on a young Masen who, overwhelmed by her feelings and her fears, lashed out in a damaging and irreparable way at Booth while he was overseas in the military. The relationship may have ended, but the love sure didn’t.

“I had what I wanted in my mind and no one else would do.”

Fast forward ten years, and Masen is lonely, she thinks she’s ready to try to move on, and she’s started seeing Bowe, a fireman who works with her best friend Mia’s husband, Tai. He’s a great guy, the whole package, but she’s just not feeling anything more than friendship. She gets the surprise of a lifetime one day, when she arrives at the firehouse to find Booth there. Immediately drawn to each other, their moment is cut painfully short.

“The cries tore out of my body… as the last ten years of torment poured out of my body in huge, shuddering, pain-filled sobs.”

These two put each other through the wringer before finding their way back to each other. My heart broke right along with Masen’s in that living room when Booth pushed her away. I felt her pain, I felt her sadness and I felt just how tentatively she was going through the motions of living her life in the wake of that night. All of the pain that Masen was feeling leads up to an epic moment, though. Gah! I just loved how that scene played out! It was fraught with raw and angry emotion, it was painful and real but oh-so-necessary for these two heal from their past mistakes, to forgive each other and then take a step forward together.

“I’d prayed for this day. Prayed that one day he’d come home, safe and sound, and he’d listen to my apology.”

As they rebuild their relationship and restart their lives together, there’s danger on the horizon. Curious things are happening to Masen and her family. Not everyone is who they seem to be, and the danger to Masen is closer than she realizes. Will Booth figure out who poses the threat to her?

“Thank you for coming home.”
He chuckled, “You were here. How could I not?”

I adored this book! The Kilgore world that Vale has built is one of my favorite fictional places to go, and this series is very reminiscent of her other series that are rooted here. Favorite characters from those books make appearances, and it’s always great to check in with the SWAT guys. This book had all the things I love most about Lani’s work – the emotion, the longing, the love between the characters and that sizzling, smoking chemistry and blistering heat that makes an LLV book so uniquely hers. It’s all here, and it was fantastic!

Lani Lynn Vale never fails to make my heart hurt and send my pulse racing. Her writing always draws me right in, it’s like talking with a group of old friends. But what makes her work special is her sense of humor. Dry and smart, her quick wit is often unexpected but always well executed, and it’s one of my favorite things about her books. I loved every minute of this book, and as always, Lani left me wanting more. Flash Point gets 5 smooches from me!

Reviewed For I'm A Sweet And Sassy Book Whore

I was hoping that after the way we are introduced to Masen and Booth at the end of Shock Advised that Flash Point would be as hot as the definition in regards to a fire would be. While it did have it’s hot and explosive moments I had really been hoping for more.

I wanted Masen and Booth to become explosive together, I wanted that snarky feisty girl we were introduced to in Shock Advised to make Booth work for it and not just only begin to light that fire between them but for it to form into a full on inferno but she tuned out to be a spark that didn’t really ignite. Don’t get me wrong, I did like and enjoy Flash Point but I didn’t feel that soul deep connection between these two that the author was trying to show us that they had. I liked the second chance aspect of the storyline and that they were able to reconnect and get back together but something was just missing. I don’t know if it is the storyline with Booth and his situation with his ex-wife or if it is just me personally but I just didn’t feel that this one worked as well as previous books have.

Overall Flash Point was an enjoyable read that did provide this book whore with more than one laugh, had me feeling emotions from sadness to happiness, and while it wasn’t my favorite it is still one that fans of Lani Lynn Vale should read.

HASH(0xa0808d98) out of 5 stars Combustible Second Chance Love June 6 2016
By Sarah Griffin - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
It should come to no surprise to anyone that knows me well just how much I adore second chance romances. There's something so magical and heartbreaking about a couple that was together years ago, and for whatever reason, they aren't anymore. There's something so raw about the way they fight against each other and eventually fight their way back TO each other. It's in the way they do these things that you truly understand their character. It's in the way they bare their souls to each other, the way they conquer their fears, and the way they work against outside sources. Because it's through these trials and tribulations that you fully come to appreciate how fantastic they are together. Flash Point had all those qualities and more and it's for exactly those reasons that I couldn't tear myself away from reading it. So much so that it immediately prompted me to go back and read three of her other series that I had just read a few months prior. My addiction to her books is second only to one other author and I foresee myself reading them multiple times over the coming years.

I love how angst filled the first few chapters were; how my heart felt as if it were breaking into a million pieces. How Booth lashed out and tried in vain to hide how he was really feeling, when all he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her and never let go. I loved that no matter how hard Masen tried, she could never truly hide her feelings for him. He was the accelerant and she was the flame and when they came together, it was beautifully combustible. This was a couple that fit together so flawlessly that it was hard to believe they ever separated in the first place. But that's the thing with life; there's no hitting the pause button. Even if you stop or end something, time keeps passing. The only thing you can hope for is that you come to your realizations before it's too late.

As I've come to expect from her books, I was anticipating the intermingling of the side characters, both new and old, as well as the bit of suspense. There wasn't as much as they has been in her other books, but for this couple, there was just the right amount. Because for this couple, none of that outside noise was really needed. To stay true to them, it was mostly all about them, and it couldn't have been more perfect. I felt like some of the synopsis was overstated/misleading, and for that I was a tad disappointed. But I got over it really quickly the more I fell in love with them. I just felt like it added unnecessary drama. But it was all in the road towards them finding their way back to each other, so all's well that ends well.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes next. I know the heroine is related to someone in one of her other series, but we don't know as of yet who that is. I'm eager to find out!

HASH(0xa0808f3c) out of 5 stars *****5 Stubborn Second Chances Stars***** June 2 2016

Gah! Masen and Booth made me CRAZY! Two very stubborn souls hurting each other and destroying their intense love. While their love began at an early age, it was one that was a once in a lifetime. But heated words in the aftermath of intense grief tore them apart. Neither could forgive the other. Years go by, one steamy encounter that leaves them both devastated, and then more years go by, both of them alone. Now Booth is back, with a civilian job as a Firefighter/Medic and member of the SWAT team. But their lives are not the same. Booth is now married with a baby and Masen is involved with a firefighter from his department. Could this story get anymore complicated? Yes! Even though they are both involved with others, they can't deny their intense love for each and finally give themselves over to it.

Then I gave him the truth, as well as handed him my heart. The precious, broken and bleeding piece of flesh that’d never been the same since he’d left.

“Then you can spend the day worshipping me,” she said with a smile on her face. “Brush my hair. Rub lotion into my skin. Take me. Over and over again.”

He growled into my mouth and pulled me in tighter, pushing his hips up to let me feel the long length of his erection. Not that I hadn’t felt it before. It was hard to miss that massive beast.

Ms. Vale takes the reader on a wild ride that includes humor, steamy sex, tears, scary moments, a dilusional mad man, but in the end Booth and Masen realize they are meant to be together forever. You will not regret 1-clicking this wonderful second chances love story by the talented Lani Lynn Vale!

HASH(0xa0809324) out of 5 stars A second chance never felt so good… June 2 2016
By diducky - Published on

I always do a happy dance when I see a new release from this author and I’m never disappointed. There will be friends and family, conflict, love and plenty of laughter… This time out is Masen and Booth’s turn and their conflict was emotional and funny and completely entertaining!
They were in love and then they were… not. Well, that’s not entirely true, as the devastating end to their relationship was something neither fully let go. With Booth finally moving back home they have an opportunity to work through all that stuff that festered for over a decade. They are in new relationships so working through their differences would allow them to completely move on… sort of… maybe. Life is messy… thank goodness!

Not everything is as it seems as Masen and Booth struggle with forgiveness and reconciliation. Masen doesn’t diminish her part in their break up and the emotional toll it took on both of them. There are tears, a lot of anger, but still the physical spark and emotional connection they can’t deny. Booth is weary as he realizes how much his life was affected, and is still, affected, by their relationship. I wanted to hug it all out with them as they argued and cried and re-connected….

Along with the emotional punch, I looked forward to the commentary on life; the nuggets that appear at the beginning of each chapter of this author’s books. They are irreverent and always, always make me misty… or make me laugh… Along with the familiar is always the unique and different spin each story takes. Whether MC or firemen I look forward to them all!

Made me laugh out loud:
“Masen: I miss you.”
“Masen: Sorry, that was my vagina.”

“I’m emotionally constipated. I haven’t given a c**p all week.”
