Product Description

Everyone has a story.

Mine went like this: Once upon a time, I met a boy. He was the most handsome fella in the land. I fell in love. Together, we had cosmic chemistry. I believed I would live a life of unending bliss. Until he broke my heart. Shattered it to pieces. And I lived unhappily ever after instead. The end.

Or so I thought.

Life found a way to reunite us. But to change that unhappy ending, I had to learn how to forgive. And my heart seemed unable to do so.

This is a love story. But it is also, much more. It’s the story of how I coped with my shortcomings, my fears and rewrote my destiny. Everyone has a story. This is mine.

About the Author

I have found that there is only one thing better than reading, and that is writing. I am always torn between the two. I am also frequently torn between chocolate and coffee. However, I emphatically do not like the month of February, lies, and flies. For me, bravery is defined by the courage to do what we fear the most. I live in Connecticut with my husband and two children. Drop a few lines. I would love to hear from you.

**Reviewed by Melinda from Bloggers From Down Under

When we are born, life makes no claim that it is going to be simple or easy.

What would it feel like to be abandoned by your own mother?

Left to die.

Just born.

All alone.

Covered by leaves.

In a graveyard.

Left, abandoned, naked, bare, hungry, crying, exposed.

This was Grays story, a story about Love, forgiveness, heartbreak, death, abandonment, hope, self worth, a story about learning to forgive those who need forgiveness a story about defying the odds, a story about the love of soul mates and no matter how much time passes true love will always find a way.

Gray isn’t perfect she has many flaws as we all do but she thought by leaving her home town and her mamma it would help hear shattered heart.

I realize I am an imperfect person living in an imperfect world.

Gray didn’t have the perfect start to life she was abanded by her own mother at a graveyard where her biological mother gave birth to her, she was found by chance by a dog called sunshine and taken to hospital to where she would meet her mamma.

“ONCE UPON A TIME , there was an unborn baby girl placed in the wrong tummy.

Gray had a great childhood but she always seem to go back to the graveyard it was her place her solace.

Fate came into play and Galel was injected into her world.

Galel and Gray had an amazing connection but they also had dreams, Gray’s dream was to go to Julliard his was to be a doctor.

The arrival of the acceptance to Julliard Gray was excited to tell Galel but she wanted to do it in person never did she expect to see what she was about to see.

Grays world crumbled.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had some interesting twists but at the end of it all I was left pondering too many things. Jan. 25 2017

Gray and Galel had a relationship that ended in disaster 1o years ago when he broke her heart and she fled home. She is now a world famous singer and has come home at the request of her mother, who has informed her she has cancer. Gray does not take the news well and acts out almost from the time she enters her childhood home. She was like a spoiled child at times and did not address her problems, she literally tried to run away from them. Galel tries to be there for her in this difficult time and goes out of his way to try and make her comfortable, since he is on her mother's medical treatment team. Gray does not handle this well at all and begins to cut him down every chance she got. Galel took it and said he took full responsibility for her heartbreak but asked if they could move forward. Gray had abandonment issues from when she was left in a cemetery covered in leaves as a kid by her birth mother. She survived when a dog named Sunshine found her and she was brought to the hospital where she was taken care of by Betty, who then brought her home and adopted her. Gray then met Galel when she was in high school and they started dating when they were in high school. The past between Galel and Gray was shown in flashbacks that encompassed their relationship from the time they met until the incident that caused Gray to run away. Galel was likable enough, except there was one twist that had me questioning his truthfulness. In turned out that, again, Gray did not let him explain what transpired and lashed out at him and then discovered that her lashing out had consequences. There were several plot twists that had me pondering why they were even in the book, but I read on anyway. An outside force was wrecking Gray's life at every turn. It was an interesting twist but still left me wondering why so much had to go on in this book. Gray is able to find the strength to be there for her throughout and Gray does finally learn how to live her life, not hold back because of fear and deal with her issues. I won't say she was likable at the end, but I was able to relate to her more at that point. Overall an okay read.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a second chance romance! Jan. 23 2017

This book... wow.
L. Duarte blew my expectations out of the water with this one. The story was so beautifully crafted... the prologue alone wrapped me up in words, sank hooks into my interest and held me captive.
I hated having to put the story down for even a moment.

Flightless is more than a second chance romance. It's a story that deals with loss and abandonment; redemption and reclamation. It was a journey that took some twists and turns that caught me by surprise. I can wholeheartedly say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Breath-taking story of Second Chances, Destiny, Family and Love! Feb. 6 2017

Everyone has a story, and this is hers

Once Upon a time she met a boy, he was the most handsome fella in all the land, and they fell in love, these two had cosmic chemistry, that she believed they would live a life of unending bliss and happiness. Until he broke her heart, shattered it into a million pieces, never to be fully restored again in which she lived unhappily ever after.
That is until life found a way to reunite them. But for her to be able to finally live happily ever after she must learn to forgive but she seemed unable to do so.

Here we read about her shortcomings, heartache and fears and how she rewrote her destiny.

Okay... so let’s start this review off by saying how beautiful and captivating the cover of this book is! The colours, the feathers really drew me into this book and then to top it off, I think it had a really unique synopsis, that had me even more intrigues with this story.

This is the first book I have read by L Duarte and if this book is anything to go by then I defiantly need to indulge in her other work.
This book took my breath away, there was such a uniqueness to this story that you couldn’t help but fall in love with everything about it. It really captures your heart in all aspects of the story.

It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and many times through this book I had tears streaming down my face, but with the sad times through this book and there were many, there was also the happy and bittersweet moments that really capture and break your heart. I did read this book in one sitting and I’m so glad I did as I seriously would not have been able to put it down. I loved the seamless story telling of the past and present events as you get to see what really happens and what is the cause of the main issue’s in this book.

This book was still not your typical romance book, of second chance love, or finding trust but there was also suspense in this book, not that you got much of it but it was enough to send shivers down my spine and have me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen.

I only have two minor issues with this book, one I really would have loved to have read some of this book from Galel POV as there were certain scenes (who am I kidding the whole book) that I really would have love to find out what he was thinking or feeling, to really connect with him even more than I already did.
Two what happened with them before the epilogue? Did she go back to LA? Did she go back to singing? I’ve got many questions that I feel were left unanswered yet we did still get a HEA. But what happened in them 7 years…I’m curious!

These characters were destined to be together even after 10 years apart. You could tell their connection runs deep, so it got to me that they still carried on resisting each other.

Gray Davis is a Grammy award winning superstar, that hides behind her paparazzi smile to often to hide the real cause of her pain. Being abandoned at birth set Gray up to a mystery to her but her adoptive mother turned an awful situation into a lovely fairy tale. But with a heart-breaking situation occurs Gray leaves Misty for LA and never looks back. Lonely, and mechanical she lives her everyday life never letting anyone get to close in order to shatter her heart, even though it still hasn’t been repaired from the last heartbreak. But when devastating news reached Gray she returns only to be confronted by the cause of that heart break, in which stirs up feelings she thought she hid forever and her only way to cope is push back and pull away and to never forgive. But will life altering situation cause her look at her life differently and begin to forgive?

Galel carries his guilt and suffering around for the past ten years as well, and you can feel it through-out this book but as soon as he lays his eyes on Gray again the connection they had before reignites and he will do anything for her to forgive him and to carry on loving her the same way he has done for the past 10 years. Unconditionally.

Do not miss this incredible breath-taking story, of second chances, destiny, family and most of all love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Duarte gets better and better with each book she writes Feb. 2 2017

Flightless by L. Duarte
5 out of 5 stars
Ms. Duarte gets better and better with each book she writes. This is one of those books that just grabs ahold of your heart and doesn’t let go and you can’t even put it down. I read this story in one fitting I laughed and cried. (Make sure you have some tissues handy). Ms. Duarte writes strong characters that people can relate too. This isn’t just a powerful love story this is a story of young love, with misunderstandings and twist and turns.

Gray Davis cancels all of her tour dates and returns home to deal with family issues. She returns to a place that she hasn’t seen in ten years a place she never dreamed of coming back to. A place where she could run into him Galel Asner. The one who broke her heart into pieces and it never mended.

Galel Asner has achieved his goal of becoming a doctor. He stayed in Misty and tried to be happy and make a life for himself. But he never got over her his soulmate. He never forgave himself for breaking her heart. He knew she was back, and he knew just where to go to run into her. He always knew just where to find her.

I loved how Ms. Duarte portrays Gray and Galel story it’s a testament to all that love can endure and overcome. It’s a reminder that even when evil comes into your life and tries to destroy love will always prevails. I loved the secondary characters like Lindy and her husband Steve but I also love Grays Mom she was awesome.
I highly recommend this book….

3.0 out of 5 stars Second chance love April 24 2017

I am a complete sucker to a second chance love story, even though my TBR pile is out of control I just can’t resist them.

Gray has spent the last 10 years on the run – when I say that I mean she has been running from her past, her home town and the memories she would rather not relive. In her everyday life she has become a very successful and well known singer, touring all over the world. When Gray receives a phone call from her mother with devastating news, she drops everything to return home to care for her.

Just because Gray hasn’t been home to Misty in years doesn’t mean she hasn’t seen her mother, she often flies her to her concert locations so they can catch up. There is only one real reason she hasn’t returned home and that reason is Galel Asner. Galel was her high school sweetheart, the guy she made plans with for a future together and the guy that broke her heart.

When they were teenagers Gray worked really hard in school to fulfill her dream of being accepted in Julliard Music School in New York. Galel always wanted to be a doctor and as he was a little bit older than Gray he left for college before she finished high school. Then one day everything changed and Gray left throwing away her dreams, managing to make it big on her own.

As luck would have it Galel is one of her mother’s medical specialists so there will be no escaping him unfortunately. Gray still carries the pain and hurt around with her from all those years ago so when she sees Galel for the first time it all comes slamming back, reverberating around the walls of her heart.

‘The pale light of dawn accented the small lines around his eyes. The lines had been non-existent when he was mine. I examined them. They made the lapse of time we had spent apart, real, tangible, concrete. I resented them.’

As Gray immerses herself back into life in her hometown she relives a lot of moments and memories she had with Galel. However, one thing is startling obvious, she still loves him, always has and always will. She can see the same feelings reflected in the depths of Galel’s eyes but despite all this she will never trust him again with her heart.

All of this is playing out quite nicely but in the background there is a dark element going on. The history of Gray’s birth is quite a crucial story line to this book and there is someone in her town hell bent on destroying her and any potential future happiness she may have.

So you have a second chance love story playing out between Gray and Galel, her mother coping with a life threatening medical issue and a nasty person making plans to intersect with all of that. Plenty of things to keep a reader interested. I personally didn’t understand why there was so much nastiness and didn’t like the way it played out, in fact I felt a lot of it unncessary but that was just my personal feel. If you enjoy a good second chance love story then I am sure you will enjoy this!
