Product description

Product Description

In a world where plants are the highest commodity, corsetted in iron and steel,
shop-girl Prunella Morrow dreams of becoming a botanist and studying at the
prestigious Kew Institute. But when she gives in to old habits and steals a rare
clockwork poppy, she is drawn into London’s dark, dangerous underworld.

Weaving together the Victorians’ love of nature with
all the subjects dear to steampunk enthusiasts,
Flora Victoriana is a series of novellas and short stories
set in an alternate universe where plants have been
engineered to work alongside machines.

The Floral Underworld is a 36,000-word novella.

ABOUT THE WORLD OF FLORA VICTORIANA

Flora Victoriana is a steampunk adventure series
set in an alternate Victorian world where the
eighteenth-century discovery of a bacterium has
allowed the British Empire to develop a rudimentary
method of plant-based genetic engineering called, “synthesis”.
This in turn has spurred the development of a
new branch of industry that combines plants and
machines, placing botanists at the forefront of
invention and intrigue.

WHAT IS STEAMPUNK?

Steampunk is best described as (modern) Victorian science-fiction.
It's characterised by strange inventions, 19th-century references,
and an irreverence for social norms. If you enjoy the work
of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, I think you'll find this an
enjoyable genre.
