About the Author

Al Hooper stopped counting the number of newspapers he’d worked for when the total passed 12. Among his ports of call were Seattle, Yakima and Bremerton in Washington, and three different dailies in Vancouver, B.C. His previously published novels include Martial Law in Yakima, a crime thriller with a martial arts background, and Hidden Valley, a dinosaur-centric suspense tale for readers aged 10 and up. The author’s website is E-HOOPER.

HASH(0x9fd37d74) out of 5 stars Good stuff March 13 2013
By Steve Sanger - Published on
Format: Paperback
I was a young guy working for a newspaper in San Francisco in 1959 when Errol Flynn crossed the range. At it happened, at the time I was writing a review of Flynn's autobiography, My Wicked Wicked Ways, so was fairly familiar with his life. It was fun reading Al Hooper's novel because it was a believable and often amusing fictional account of Errol's last days. Hooper's book brought Flynn back to life for me.

This is a great read. If you like gritty 50's style detective stories, you'll love this book. It's at the top of my "new favorites" list.

HASH(0x9fd3581c) out of 5 stars A breeze of a read that is both fun and intriguing Nov. 25 2014

A breeze of a read that is both fun and intriguing. I felt the teaser alluded to more involvement by Errol Flynn's character ["..the actor is embroiled in an escalating conflict.."] -- that's the reason I purchased the book -- that Flynn was somehow involved in the actual solving of the case. I didn't find that to be the case. It was still a fun read. The story and characters had an old movie-type feel to it. It was perfect for my long international flight.

HASH(0x9fd35918) out of 5 stars Flynn's Last Stand is a movie. Waiting to happen Dec 2 2013

This is an enormously fun book. Great fireside or beach reading. So many elements are wrapped in - noir, comedy, romance, mystery, action - but my favorite was the the goings on in the 1959 Vancouver newsroom. It's a time capsule for those of us alive at the time and a history lesson for those who were not. Hats off to Hooper for a great read! I hope he has a Hollywood buyer - mark wahlberg would be a great lead with a cast of memorable characters.

This is a story, but not about Errol Flynn. He was only mentioned a few times. I was very disappointed.
