it makes complete sense and if an effort to follow the recipes in it is made, the results are fantastic.

Great book. Had wonderful results following this diet. Showed it to my doctor, who ended up purchasing one for herself, due to my improved health results!

HASH(0x9e3df8b8) out of 5 stars Rescued my mom March 4 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I urge colitis sufferers to try this book's advice, and to smile once more. Ten years ago, my mother was suffering from severe colitis symptoms: diarrhea, pain, mucus, weakness and heavy bleeding. Doctors offered her one option, and that was surgery. When things were looking pretty bleak, we came upon Dr. Gottschall's book. After only ten days on the diet described in the book, Mom showed significant signs of improvement. When she cheated, her syptoms worsened. Then she stuck to the diet and stayed on it the two full years, feeling better and better. After two years, she switched to a modified version of the diet which she maintains to this day. Mom is now energetic and virtually symptom-free, and knows what do if symptoms reappear. She has learned to pay close attention to what nutritious foods her body really craves, and usually it's right. Thank you Dr. Gottschall!

If you have an intolerance for carbohydrates this book gives you the nuts and bolts of going on a carbohydrate free diet. The book explains why you have the intolerance and gives some recipes to get you started. I was feeling terrible and this book saved my life.

My daughter had a life and death gut problem. We found this book with its suggested diet and put her on it with our peditricians approval.
She was not expected to live past three, she is now 20 and thriving. It is a wonderful book for anyone struggling with Chron's, celiac or any other gut disorder.
I hightly recommend giving it a try before any surgery if possible.

HASH(0x9e3dff54) out of 5 stars ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, BUT IT IS! Sept. 4 2012
By Pam Grimm - Published on Amazon.com
If you have Chron's or Colitis, your doctor will not talk to you about how important your diet is. But this book will. Don't suffer with the side effects of drugs they give you, there are multiple, like the anorexia of sulfasalasine, and joint degeneration of prednisone. I have witnessed an almost instant recovery by simply eliminating dairy and starches in the diet. Elaine Gottschall is a mother who trusted an experienced doctor enough to try his method of dealing with this disease by diet control and in doing so saved her own daughter from surgery and a lifetime of wearing a colostomy bag. Take control of a loved one's recovery of this disease, or of your own, by purchasing this simple book. Your doctor will downplay it's effectiveness and push drugs, so you'll have to have the "guts" to be your own guide to recovery. It's not easy to give up goodies like ice-cream and bread, but it's also not easy to look for a bathroom every fifteen minutes, is it? I've heard a lot of sufferers at a support group say they know about Gottschall's diet, but they would rather order cases of Imodium than give up their pizza. Just plain dumb to me. Buy this book if you are smart. It will explain the science behind it, lists of good and bad foods, recipes, and more.

HASH(0x9e3dfc9c) out of 5 stars Life Saver Jan. 30 2015
By Alex Springer - Published on Amazon.com
This book undoubtedly saved my life. I was at the final stages of ulcerative colitis and Prednisone was no longer working. I happened upon this book in a book store in Toronto in 1988. It must have been an early issue of the book. I phoned Elaine Gottschall and spoke with her. I started the diet the same day. Within 3 days the symptoms were diminishing and within 3 months I had full health again. I weaned myself off all medications and remained on the diet without cheating for 5 years. I tried a few times to add milk products into the diet, but without fail start getting mouth ulcers within 24 hours of any milk. I have not been sick since starting this healthy way to eat and physically now more fit than when I started. I have give copies of this book to many who suffered from Crohns and Colitis. All improved, but not all stayed on the diet and those that did not had the disease return. People tell me it is a hard diet to maintain, but I feel it is not as hard as s***ing into a bag and having reduced life quality.
