Product Description

He’s waited more than 900 years to love her…

Being the Gatekeeper to Hades is no small feat, and waiting almost a millennia to meet your mate is damn near impossible. But Theo Bradford’s mark has finally surfaced on his intended. Now all he has to do is find her and convince her to embrace her supernatural heritage.

Young genius, Sadie Nowland, has got life figured out. Graduating college at the age of eighteen and accepting a six-figure job is just what she needs to prove she’s made something of herself. But when a strange tattoo mysteriously appears on her shoulder and Theo starts talking about Mates, it catapults her neatly laid out life into chaos.

Targeted by a vicious demon escaped from Hades, Sadie is thrust into the volatile world of Shomrei warriors and a connection to Theo her brain can’t comprehend and her body can’t deny. That primal bond proves more imperative to their survival than either could have ever imagined—and just may be the key to the world’s survival.

This book was not what I expected at all! And that's a good thing.

Upon reading the summary I assumed it'd be a little bit of insta-love, must-need-mate-now sorta deal. But it's incorrect.

The story starts out with Theo going into the diner where he knows his long-awaited (911 years) mate is. The attraction is there for both him and Sadie. Theo tries to of course be there with her and she resists. We learn he's a Gatekeeper. Basically he makes sure demons stay in their realm.

I'll skip the "courting" part of the novel and get to the exciting part of the plot. Sadie turns out to be a special person, having Theo's powers before they even consummate... even more when she develops wings. So in the midst of one certain demon wanting to kill her, she tracks down the woman she was once handed to in the hospital by her birth mother to try to get some insight on her past and what she exactly is.

I assumed insta-love that often goes along with the mate stuff but I was happy that Sadie resisted everything at first; him, the truth of their world, etc. She wanted nothing to do with him at first. And only after spending time with each other, did she fall in love. And he was only really protective right off.

although I did enjoy it from the start I disliked how we're thrown right in with Theo showing Justin, his Companion and basically brother that he found his mate. Readers had no chance to get to know anything in the world.

A few of the slip ups I had with this book was the way the author never fully explained certain things. For example, we learn Sadie is really smart and is graduating. A while after, we learn that she is only seventeen going on eighteen and has been offered a much-desired career.
