I was expecting the period songs that were in the movie, not the big band background! The score music is repeated over & over........

HASH(0x99befbdc) out of 5 stars Awesome soundtracks March 16 2002
By Molly P. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I love the film "Forrest Gump," and the music within. Lucky for us fans, there are several soundtrack CDs available. The instrumental one is awesome. I have always been a fan of Alan Silvestri's music ("Back to the Future," "Father of the Bride," "Fools Rush In," etc.). Included on that CD are all the instrumental pieces heard in the movie. If you've seen the movie often enough, you'll be able to recreate the scenes in your head while listening to the music -- Forrest running, the feather floating, Forrest talking to Jenny, Forrest in Vietnam. A lot of very powerful songs can be found on that CD. The other CDs (actually a 2-disk set) are a compilation of oldies used in the movies. Relive the eras of the 50s, 60s, and 70s with all these great songs. There are a few songs from the movie that are not on the soundtrack but it's still a good CD anyway. Both CD/sets are great for any fans of "Forrest" and I would highly recommend them (especially the intrumental soundtrack).

HASH(0x99be9f9c) out of 5 stars "I'm not a smart man. But I know what good music is . . ." Nov. 14 2001
By Lee DeWald - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I don't know what it is about Alan Silvestri, but his scores have the ability to stir up emotions in me that no other artist can do. Some of my favorite soundtracks of all time are works that he has done - the "Back to the Future" trilogy, "Cast Away" and the "Father of the Bride" movies. "Forrest Gump," for all intents and purposes, is some of his best work ever.
None of the songs are very long (the entire CD is not much longer than a half-hour), but that doesn't mean they aren't beautiful. A lot of tracks on the CD are these meek little songs that act like they are afraid to bloom. Others are full of life, overflowing with vibrancy. Both represent the character of Forrest, as well as the events and people in his life, extremely well.
About the only gripe I have with the CD (and it is a minor gripe) is that you pretty much have to turn the volume all the way up on your CD player or stereo to hear the music. Whoever recorded these CDs did so very poorly, and anyone who has this CD is well aware of this problem. Other than that, however, there are no detractions from the overall quality of Mr. Silvestri's music.
The score for "Forrest Gump" is a classic, as the main theme is practically known the world over. If you are one of the few people who has never listened to this CD, I guarantee you that you will not regret picking up a copy.
This is Alan Silvestri at his best, folks; he doesn't get much better that this.

HASH(0x99b89b04) out of 5 stars The Best Movie Score of the '90s Nov. 9 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you enjoyed the "Forrest Gump Suite" on the double cd soundtrack you will love this release. This release contains the orchestral score that complements every scene from Forrest Gump. It is a very moving and powerful soundtrack that adds so much feeling to certain scenes, especially "You Can't Sit Here" and the recurring "Jenny" themes. The only track that doesn't belong here is "Jesus on the Main Line," the only original vocal track written for the movie. That should have been released on the previous compilation. You get a good 40 minutes of peaceful music in this package, perfect to put on at work or at home for stress relief. Fully orchestrated and thoughtfully arranged for such a wonderful movie. Buy it!

HASH(0x999cbabc) out of 5 stars Good, but Silvestri's Done Better Oct. 21 2001
By Zachary S. Houp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
It's been my experience that Alan Silvestri either gravitates to gung-ho action films, or modest comedies that require a light scoring hand. Forrest Gump is, obviously, one of the later, and perhaps Silvestri's best in that category, however the continuity of the album is not nearly as rounded and sustained as it could be.
Perhaps the greatest hindrance to this otherwise admirable score are the track lengths. Only one track is longer than three minutes, and that is an uninspired "suite" that does NOT include the main theme, but does manage to tack on some material that doesn't involve the rest of the score.
The Main/innocence theme is pretty, and where it recurs is appropriate and suitable, but take in mind that this doesn't happen often. The score is dominated by more emotional cues that are considerably less exciting and less entertaining. Prehaps the highlight of the score is the most upbeat and invogorating of the several themes, best exemplified in the The Crimson Gump track.
All in all, the score worked great in the film and there is a lot of good music to be listened to on the album, however poor packaging, poor selection, and an orchestra that sounded to me to be somewhat out of tune ruins this otherwise excellent CD. It won't hurt the listener to get Silvestri's compilation album of Cast Away to get as much material from Gump as necessary, as well as exposure to some of his other, better material from film's past.

HASH(0x9ef6f11c) out of 5 stars So emotive, it brings tears to your eyes :) Oct. 20 1999
By Daniel Long - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is one of those rare soundtracks that can bring someone like me, a 18 year old teen to tears in some parts of the score. I believe this to be silvestri's best work since his Back to The future Series . You can really always tell a good soundtrack, by its ability to be heard over and over again and to still move you in new ways. Like when jennifer is a little girl and prays to god to be made into a bird to hide from her father with forest in the fields is just so beautiful, you will feel so tingly and tearful all of a sudden!
What a triumph! Anyone who loves this film is in for a real treat and even those who dont will be able to admire silvestris emense talent to capture human emotion in such an artistic and warming manner :) Silvestri you have done it again mate :)
