HASH(0x9e13957c) out of 5 stars Spies Like Us is the full frame version with the top and bottom chopped off. Aug. 6 2011

Update on 11/12/11: There is a comment posted to this review that explains that this Disc is actually the correct version of the movie. Please read it if this issue concerns you.

'Spies Like Us' is a great movie. I bought this version thinking that it would have a wider view than my already purchased dvd which I could only find in full frame. I just compared it to my dvd. For this blu ray, all they did was chop some off from the top and bottom to give it the widescreen look. I thought people might to like to know.

HASH(0x9e1397c8) out of 5 stars First widescreen release July 13 2010

While not classic comedies, "Funny Farm" and "Spies Like Us" have their funny moments. Both are very enjoyable Chevy Chase movies with his usual relaxed style, a combination of straight man and funny guy. He's teamed with equally funny Dan Aykroyd in the John Landis directed "Spies" which is sprinkled with some very funny cameos. The very good news about this new BD release is that both movies are presented in widescreen for the first time on home video.

HASH(0x9e1397b0) out of 5 stars Finally, both in wide-screen! March 6 2010
By Michael Oehlerich - Published on Amazon.com
I'm not a "Super Buff", so I'm just throwing our the specifics of the disc. I picked this up yesterday at BB because it was 2 movies that I have been looking for in a wide-screen format. Both movies are in wide-screen format and on one single-sided disc like the Grumpy Old Men Double Feature. They looked to be straight film transfers, so if you are expecting superior picture quality, then you might want to wait.... and wait.... and wait. Over all, I was very happy with Disc and watching them on my big screen in the original format made it seem just like I was in the theater watching it back in the day. FYI, a sticker on the packaging says Best Buy exclusive and it was only $14.99 with an SRP of $24.99.

HASH(0x9e139ae0) out of 5 stars Widescreen???? Its NOT! (Spies like us) *** (Addendum: Yes it is!) April 30 2010
By Jan - Published on Amazon.com
I was looking forward to see this movie in its original format - I bought this and hoped for an evening of memories and laughter- But: Its not even close to its original format - they just cut of the top and the bottom of the 4:3 Version, so now it looks like 16:9 - but in reality it is just hopelessly ruined! I'll post some pics in the near future! What a ripoff!

Addendum: I was wrong: It is the real deal - see comments on my review! I changed the rating from 1 to 3 (It would have been 5, but I don't like the double feature thingy - it would have been nice to get an exclusive SLU-Blu-Ray!)

HASH(0x9e139d38) out of 5 stars Great movie ruined in post production May 13 2014

The DVD version of this movie has a 4:3 aspect ratio and the colors are great. They did not inflict the "Hollywood Look" upon us. You can look for what this trend is by searching for "teal and orange hollywood please stop the madness."

The Blu-Ray version is 16:9 and 1080p but it is cropped from 4:3 and is slathered with the "Hollywood Look".

Whoever produced this should be ashamed of themselves. Whoever told them to do the above to this movie should be fired.

I am tempted to ask to return this video as it is painful for me to watch what they did to such a fun movie.

Edit:
When MGM did this with the James Bond series it resulted in a class action lawsuit and they lost.

Search for "MGM faces class action lawsuit over misleading aspect ratios on James Bond DVDs" and you will find the lawsuit. I'm not saying that Warner Home Video should be subject to litigation however precedence looks like it may have been set.
