Product Description

Japanese10 track B-side collection includes tracks from all 4 of their European singles. The Japanese version features replaces 4 tracks on the US version, 'Dracula', 'The Sounder' (Edit)', 'Rock The House (Radio Edit)' & 'Clint Eastwood (Enhanced Video)'. Other tracks include, 'Clint Eastwood (Phil Life Cyber Version)', 'Hip Albatross', 'Left Hand Suzuki Method', '19-2000 (Soul Child Remix)', '12D3', 'Faust', 'Ghost Train' & 'Rock The House (Enhanced Video)'. 2001 standard jewelcase release.

A collection of B Sides (Sorry, G Sides) from a band with only one album to their credit should be an exercise in lowest-common-denominator barrel-scraping. But Gorillaz' G Sides, as befits a band whose "live" performances take months of preparation, is an exercise in careful planning that actually manages to outstrip this near certainty. It's by no means a work of lost gems. "19-2000" features as a more uptempo mix, and "Clint Eastwood" reappears as the more chunky mix performed on the BRITs with Phi Life Cypher, and as a CD-ROM video. Other tracks, such as the closer "12D3" come across as 13 era Blur on autopilot. Unsurprisingly it's not hefty either, weighing in at a fairly paltry 37 minutes and 10 tracks, but overall it provides a fairly good companion to the album, and is better than it has any right to be. --Chris Blenkarn --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

Why did they release this...and then the Space Monkeys album? They could have combined the two and gave us a much longer remix album.
Either way, this is a pretty good [small] collection of remixes and a few new tracks that were previously only on singles. The new tracks are kind of depressing in that they're very slow/sad in the music and the lyrics are a little slow as well. That doesn't mean they're bad, not at all, but they don't really fit in with the faster paced tracks...notably the new Clint Eastwood. That thing kicks. The new raps thrown in just flat out rule. It's just as good as the original.
The music on all the tracks is what this album is about. Not just lyrics. And on another note- the booklet has some pretty cool pictures. One or two are found in the Gorillaz (self titled) LP that came out a while ago. So go for this if you're really into the band. Just don't expect something that'll get heavy rotation in your CD player. I still say they stop doing remixes and just focus on doing a new "real" album.

Gorillaz G-Sides is more of a remix CD with some new songs than an original CD. It has fewer songs (nine, as opposed to the original CD's 15), is only about 37 minutes long, and its songs are faster paced than the original. The original CD, Gorillaz, made in middle-2001 was a mix of Hip-Hop, Rock, a little Latin, a drop of country, and a splash of pop. Gorillaz was a deep sometimes slow beat, sometimes fast beat CD that I myself adored and I gave it a 4.5 in my mind and loved its mix of genres and cultures. Sadly, I can't say the same for G-Sides, because just as it starts to get good, it ends. G-Sides takes some of Gorillaz old hits (19-2000,Latin Simone, and Clint EastWood) and remixes them with some new songs. I find it sad to say this is more Techno with a little Rap, Latin, and some classic and country sprinkled in for flavor. It tries too hard to make its old songs sound new...Some songs are quite similar to the original CD's, especially Latin Simone, and Gorillaz Smash hit Clint Eastwood's chorus has changed to a less singable tune. Plus a couple songs are so dull I thought my head was going to explode. Like the original CD, G-Sides usually doesn't have many lyrics in its songs, except for the rap songs. This isn't as ambitious as the original CD and I would rather call it Gorillaz 1.5 than I would a sequel...I also find it necessary to mention that this CD has a parental Advisory, but I can't see why. The only words I heard that were offensive were in song 4 and maybe song 6, and the only ones I could easily identify were a reference to being, "Stoned" and Jesus Christ, and that was used in a religious way. Also the pictures inside the case showed some characters smoking...

The second Gorillaz album, called G-Sides, is one rockin' album. It contains 3 remixes, as well as six songs from various Gorillaz singles. Two of the remixes are from 19/2000, and the other is a new Clint Eastwood version. It may have only nine tracks, and last less than 40 minutes, but that's not important. The best part about this album is its sound. Its beats rock, and I think that no one can argue with it. I love every song on G-Sides, even "Hip Albatross" and "12D3". I think Faust has the best sound and vocals by Noodle(Miho Hatori), and 2-D(Damon Albarn). My favorite tracks on the CD are "19/2000(Soulchild Remix)", "The Sounder", "Faust", "Clint Eastwood(Phi Life Cypher Version)", and "19/2000(The Wiseguys House of Wisdom Re-Mix)". But before any kid can owm this awesome album, their parent(s) or guardian(s) should listen to each song, and see if it's safe to listen to. Aside from that, everything else about it is great.

A track by track breakdown. Not in exact order, because I can't remember the order.
19-2000 soul child remix - bouncy ... techno. ok for a listen, but i really don't like it. it's in that icebreakers commercial with that stupid high pitched whistle.
19-2000 wiseguys remix - awful boring talentless techno. just terrible.
latin simone remix - not really a remix, but a different version. this is the latin simone song from the original cd - exact same music - however the vocals are in english and sung by damon albarn (2-d). his voice doesn't fit the music as well as the original guy, and he doesn't raise his voice well at some points either (QUE PASA CONTIGO!?!?!), but it's still a great track.
The Sounder - A random rap song by a random rapper. Not a bad song, and the rapper is skilled, but I don't like his voice too much. Decent song if you're into rap.
Clint Eastwood remix - Clint Eastwood, but with the Del tha funkee Homosapien's (Russell) rap portion sung by the rapper who does The Sounder. The beats are changed slightly to accomodate this guy, and it's not that bad either. Decent for certain.
Faust - Decent listen, with some japanese lyrics, but not too special. Cool though.
Ghost Train - Great track - initially. I've gotten tired of it recently. But it's still decent.
12D3 - Awesome song. Simple guitars, wonderful vocals by damon albarn, comprehensible yet nonsensical lyrics...all the things that make the gorillaz great.
Hip Albatross - My favorite song on the cd. Simple rhythm and low key vocals, very sample heavy. At almost all points during the song are samples from Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead being played, often just zombies groan. Really great song, just laid back low key great music.
