I'm hoping this one will last me just as long.
Word of warning for Windows 10 users. I had a hell of a time getting the LAN network drivers to work. Turns out I needed to update Windows 10 before it would recognize the LAN chipset. It seems like there are different versions of this board? Mine had the INTEL LAN chipset.
The BIOS is new to me. I'm used to the old school blue. But it boots under 4 seconds. The "easy" mode overclock is a nice feature. I did have to put the default fan settings to "quiet" as I found "normal" to be a bit on the loud side. The realtek audio chip is "ok". I do have a backup soundcard in case the onboard sound doesn't perform to my standards. It read my 3000Mhz RAM as 2133, so I did have to make some adjustments there as well.
All in all, great board so far. Having said that, Gigabyte hardware is great but the provided Windows software in the included CD is awful. Don't bother with them. There are much better third party software for providing sys info, fan control and temperature monitoring.
Very fast, with the Z170 chipset, this board is compatible with both SLI and CrossFire technologies.
It carries two USB 2.0/1.1, three USB 3.0 and one USB 3.1 ports on its back panel. The two PCI slots is a nice addition and allow you to keep older hardware (an old hi-end soundcard perhaps?).
What's surprising though is how compact this board is. It's much smaller than older boards yet it carries everything you're going to need now or several years from now. It was very easy to install. Especially the placement/grouping of SATA Express ports is a plus.
The only drawback is the memory slots (supporting DDR4) which I find a little cumbersome since they carry a switch only on one side. Personally, I prefer slots with switches on both sides.
It was easy to work with and setup. Not really anything to complain.
The usb-3 front panel is close to the CPU, so that might be a problem if you have a large CPU block.
Its a bit on the expensive side of things but it has all the feature you might need in 2017.
But other than that, the board runs extremely well.
