There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
When you have the right size of bucket the ring should look about right before you start. One hand needed to push down one spot until it "clicks"... just keep going around from that point. When you come back around then you need your second hand to make the final click. Once you have done a couple of them, this should take about 10 seconds per bucket.
Note that I did not use a rubber mallet which I bought due to the reviews here. I did unscrew the cap before putting it on. And my hands were clean. Sometimes for stability I might put a knee on the lower part of the ring for stability as I work with my hands. No tools!
My hands are nothing special either: I work at a computer (are you surprised?). At most I do light yard work. So if I can do it, dear Canadians, you can too, but just remember to use a Rona bucket or you're gonna have a hard time (and you will fail and damage the product).
When I get these lids new they often look a bit wonky, like maybe someone returned them? That seems to work itself out once it is on the container. I then test things by putting some water in and testing out how tight the seal needs to be for each one. Some are not perfect, but for keeping mice out, they do the job.
If you want water-tight connection, be sure to have smoothed the rim of the bucket first, check the gasket on the inner lid, and then make sure it is tight when you close it. You probably won't get 100% water tight in my experience: so far I am 6 buckets in, and 2 of them are a little leaky if I put 1 gallon of water in and hold it upside-down above my head, particularly if I tighten not enough (or in one case, sometimes too-much).
Overall very good and I'm going to be buying more at some point.
Have used the gamma lids for years and have found them to be great at keeping food and supplies dry and dust free. Keeps the rodents out as well. Fantastic product. Will continue to reorder them as needed
Have been using these gamma lids for years and found them great, but have noticed as of late that the plastic being used is of a cheaper grade. Plastic is lighter is weight and also more difficult to fit to a few different 5 gallon pails, quality control may be off when forming these or the molds are worn out. Over all not totally impressed with these anymore and will be very cautious if I purchase any more. It says made in America on them but have to really wonder where they are made now. America ??
Steps:
1st step: Place the lid on the rim of the bucket without putting any pressure.
2nd step: Place both of your hands on each side of the lid. No pressure yet
3rd step: Place either of your knees (the strongest) on the bottom of the lid.
4th step: Start to apply good pressure on both your hands on the lid with a small wiggling motion just to help slide in the lid. At the same time put pressure on the lid using either of your knee but dont wiggle it cause it'll hurt.
Final step: Just turn the bucket around and repeat 4th step until it clicks in place.
As with everyone, yes, getting them on the bucket is a battle of (near) futility. Using a hammer? No. Trying to heat it up and fit it around? No. My best approach was placing the lid on the bucket, standing on it, and then slamming my foot down around the edge to get it into place. It's a stressful process regardless, so be warned... But once it's on, you'll be happy.
