These will ONLY fit on the Canadian Rona buckets. Not Canadian Home Depot, not Peavey Mart, nor Canadian Tire. It is the same situation as the Luggable Loo. Canadian buckets typically have a different rim size. Rona buckets are the typical American size.
When you have the right size of bucket the ring should look about right before you start. One hand needed to push down one spot until it "clicks"... just keep going around from that point. When you come back around then you need your second hand to make the final click. Once you have done a couple of them, this should take about 10 seconds per bucket.
Note that I did not use a rubber mallet which I bought due to the reviews here. I did unscrew the cap before putting it on. And my hands were clean. Sometimes for stability I might put a knee on the lower part of the ring for stability as I work with my hands. No tools!
My hands are nothing special either: I work at a computer (are you surprised?). At most I do light yard work. So if I can do it, dear Canadians, you can too, but just remember to use a Rona bucket or you're gonna have a hard time (and you will fail and damage the product).
When I get these lids new they often look a bit wonky, like maybe someone returned them? That seems to work itself out once it is on the container. I then test things by putting some water in and testing out how tight the seal needs to be for each one. Some are not perfect, but for keeping mice out, they do the job.
If you want water-tight connection, be sure to have smoothed the rim of the bucket first, check the gasket on the inner lid, and then make sure it is tight when you close it. You probably won't get 100% water tight in my experience: so far I am 6 buckets in, and 2 of them are a little leaky if I put 1 gallon of water in and hold it upside-down above my head, particularly if I tighten not enough (or in one case, sometimes too-much).
Overall very good and I'm going to be buying more at some point.

Gamma Seal Lids

Nice. 🚨 But doesn't fit ALL 5gal (19L) pails.... ⚠️
I bought some white pails from home hardware, but you better be sure they are compatible with lids!Pails that come with lids already (like those already containing oil, chemicals, dry wall plaster, paint, etc.) will probably work, like this blue pail. If you're buying a pail, make sure that it has this extra lip around the top!If not, you can see that the lid just won't fit the white pail, there's always a gap. But on the blue pail, it falls right onto the lip and you don't need to try and force it. The entire rim of the gamma seal sits inside the blue pail, but only partially on the white pail.Hope this helps.The lid is nice otherwise.

Once on they're great but a warning. Unless you're a parent that has stayed up on Christmas Eve trying to put the kids toys together, this might not be for you. I used a paint stripper heater (carefully) to soften this baby up. Popped it in over 4 sections and the last section I heated that section up where I had to use a cloth to pop it in as it was too hot on bare skin. Once on, they are really on. These are a time saver for me as I have two 5 gallon pails setup for my chickens. One for water and the other for feed. Trying to get the lids off and back on that came with them was horrid. Now just simply screw off, fill and screw on. Absolutely love these thing......
