General Description Bright, extra large daisies of pure orange grace 'Gazoo Orange' treasure flower. Its blooms are borne in profusion on extra strong stems and look great in summer containers. This Goldsmith Seeds' introduction is now sold by Syngenta. The colorful, gem-like daisies of this small, evergreen tender perennial are what inspired the common name, treasure flower. Commonly grown as a bedding annual, this South African native has been heavily cultivated for garden use. It will tolerate drought but grows best in areas where temperatures are mild and not scorching hot. Compact, basal clumps of evergreen leaves persist through winter. These are elongated, lobed and green to gray-green. Perennial clumps will spread over time. Throughout the growing season intricate, colorful daisies arise from short, leafless stems. These morning blooms commonly have distinct patterned rings of different colors including yellow, orange, green, white, brown or black. Large 3 inch, brilliant, daisy-like flowers are held on strong stems, above vigorous, 10 inch tall plants. Compared to other gazanias, The 'Gazoo' series needs less light to open its flowers, and the blooms stay open longer; they are the ideal landscaping gazania. 'Gazoo' gazanias are unequaled in borders or containers. Grown as a summer annual in most of the country; they are perennial in zones 8-10. If growing Gazania seeds in colder climates, start the flower seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Treasure Flower seeds should be pressed into the soil but not covered and kept moist but not saturated until germination occurs. After germination of the flower seeds, reduce watering and grow seedlings in a sunny window location. For warm climates, start the Gazania seeds directly outdoors in a prepared seedbed. Space the ground cover seed 8 - 12 inches apart in the seedbed.
