On Saturday morning George is stuck with looking after his ancient, incredibly mean grandmother. As the old woman alternately insults and scares him, George decides to give her a new kind of medicine. Using every liquid, powder, and pill he can find, George makes a concoction destined to change the family and several hens. Richard E. Grant fluidly changes from a good-natured boy pushed too far to the nastiest old lady imaginable to a hyperactive father with a brogue to a sensible mother wanting only peace and quiet. The written story is fun. The story as performed by Grant is marvelous. George's Marvelous Medicine is about a boy who has to deal with his old, ugly, skinny, grandmother. George couldn't deal with his grandmother any more. He came up with a plan to make a marvelous medicine. The ingredients he used were horseradish sauce, toothpaste, shaving soap, nail polish, hair remover, shoe cleaner, deodorant spray, lipstick, floor polish, and many other things.
Do you think this medicine will work? If it does work what do you think is going to happen to his grandmother? Well you'll have to read it to find out.

Did you ever live with a grumpy crazy old grandma? George did.
So...one day when both his parents are out &George has to give his grandma her medicine,
he realizes his grandma's medicine just made her grumpier. So , he decides to make his own
medicine. To make his own medicine, he goes roaming around the house putting in anything
he was allowed to touch. If you want to find out what happens, read the book!! I would recommend this book to children ages five & up who love fiction because this
is some of the best fiction ever written by one of the best fiction writers in the world in my opinion !! I've noticed a silly message: if you're dealing with a grumpy old grandma, you can be a little creative... just like George was!!
I liked when George sang that stupid song because after I read it I laughed my fool head off!! I think this is the perfect book for children that like to laugh!
If you like this book you can read his other books too!!
She really is terrible. "She was a selfish grumpy old woman. She had pale brown teeth and a small puckered-up mouth like a dog's bottom" (how's THAT for descriptive??). What's more, she's perfectly dreadful to George. She hurls astonishing verbal abuses at him, tells him terrible, frightening lies (like eating beetles and caterpillars is supposed to be good for him) and scares him half to death with her piercing stare and strange tales, "I know a great many secrets... Some of us know secrets that would make your hair stand straight up on end and your eyes pop out of their sockets..."
She is, in short, profoundly disgusting.
However, she is also old and feeble and requires a daily dose of brown medicine. One day, when left alone with her, George decides to cook up a NEW sort of medicine for her. So, he fetches the BIGGEST pot he can find and begins to put EVERYTHING (and I do mean EVERYTHING!) he can find into it. Including (but hardly limited to) a quart of brown glossy paint to disguise it as grandma's regular medicine.
The results are astonishing and truly Dahl. Grandma undergoes an astonishing transformation and the already-quick pace of the book gets even quicker!!
Though short, "George's Magnificent Medicine" is an absolute laugh riot the whole way through. Rarely do I laugh out loud when I read, even if the story is very funny. However, where THIS book is concerned, I was howling!Read more ›
