So, got this book to help me become a better gardener. I'm three years in. Flowers the first two years, flowers and veggies this year at the cottage. Instead of fumbling through, I wanted to research, find resources, and combine that with the coaching I've received from the resident gardeners in my family - my grandparents and my mom.
Just like a cookbook, I hate gardening books without full colour pictures. This one is full of colour pictures and since I'm visual, this helps me to see what is being written about.
Things I love -
- The index in the back by flower that lists the latin name and sun/shade location
- Its set-up seasonally, so you can read it piece by piece
- The tips sprinkled throughout in cute little garden marker graphics
- Great perennials and annuals section - so often at the nursery, the little tags tell you shade or sun, but there's no description of what plants like what, why, where to put it, does it like neighbors, etc - the section in this book goes into detail on that in paragraph form and also in a chart, which is really helpful. Because I hate spending money at the nursery on a plant that's so beautiful on the little tag, says sun, and I put it close to neighboring plants and it dies as it likes to be alone!
Overall, I really like it. Frankie did a great job in this easy-to-read, informative, detailed book (without too much detail) that I'll continue to use this year and beyond. Thanks for helping my garden grow!!!
There are a lot of useful tips and I especially like the diagrams on how to prune trees. This book will get a lot of use as I'm a newbie gardener and given the price of food in the coming months I'll definitely be planting a garden and will need help on just about every aspect of creating one.
Highly recommend this book!
I've actually purchased two of these books. One for myself and the other as a gift to my daughter-in-law. We love it. It's a great source of information that's easy to understand. Simple things to do before your start plantng helter skelter. I'll recommend it to anyone who is interested in gardening. And it does make a great gift.
Thanks Frankie !!
