I'm updating this review. I've now made several recipes, and each one turned out great. I highly recommend the Chickpea Salad--it was, hands down, the best chickpea salad I have EVER HAD. Frankly, I was a little shocked.

I only take off one star because I don't like the habit vegan cooks have of giving long intros full of nutritional info without properly documenting their sources. But the important thing is--great food!

Every Vegan and non-Vegan alike should have this cookbook on their bookshelf. Not only does this cookbook have tasty and easy to follow recipes it has tonnes of useful and healthful information.

This is one of my two favorite cookbooks. While I am always looking for new meal ideas, I find many vegan cookbooks are loaded with carbs, sugar, and processed ingredients which I try to avoid. Vegan does not always equal healthy so I love that this book is both!
I use this book most often for potlucks and get-togethers and it seems to please all kinds - especially the deserts. Some favorites are baba ganouch, homemade sugar-free apple sauce, coconut lime cake, and carob chai cake with cardamom icing - yum!

It was challenging enough going from someone who loved to cook and bake gourmet-style to becoming Vegan, but when a dear friend sent me Jae's book by mail (from Toronto to Vancouver - thank you Evalyn!), my world opened. Reading through the first part of this book - particularly the helpful charts on types, nutritional values and cooking times of beans, lentils, grains - set me on track with freedom and deliciousness.

Having chosen to become Vegan for medical reasons, I had been struggling with "highly recommended" vegan cookbooks because they tended to be "soy-heavy". Being allergic to soy and newly vegan, I was HIGHLY appreciative of this author's holistic approach to nutrition - her recipes are not soy-dependent at all, she even writes about that. In my opinion, after buying and trying several others, I say with confidence that Jae's is the best Vegan cookbook out there. It's not just all about health, nor just all about animal rights, nor just all about eating local - but about each of those things in a happy, smiling, energetic and authentic style.

This is the best cookbook that I've read in years! Jae really has a knack for flavors – I’m a new convert to vegan eating and I can’t remember the last time that I ate such delicious food – and I’m a major foodie! My non-vegan coworkers may soon make the switch if their drooling over my lunches is any indication. The nutritional guidance in the front of the book could be its own guidebook for healthy eating, as it is well written and informative, but view the first part as a guide to how you should eat and the recipes section as a guide to how you’ll want to eat!
