I have been a huge Big Wreck fan since I first saw the video for "The Oaf" on MTV back in 1997. I was hooked from day one. Absolutely loved "In Loving Memory Of" and the follow up "The Pleasure & The Greed". I was so disappointed when Big Wreck broke up, but followed Ian's career with his two Thornley albums. Great stuff, but no Big Wreck. The 3rd Thornley album turned into Big Wreck's "Albatross" after Brian joined the band. But to me, the album felt rushed, and didn't capture the Big Wreck greatness.

Then "Ghosts" was released. This is the Big Wreck album fans have been waiting for since 2001's "The Pleasure & The Greed". It could easily be argued this is their best album yet. Every song is spectacular, no fillers. The quality of the songwriting and production on this album is top notch. And Ian is at his finest. 17 years after their first release, and the band hasn't lost a step. They sound better than ever. If you visit the Big Wreck Facebook group, it is filled with posts from fans just gushing over how great the album is. If you're a Big Wreck fan, do yourself a favor and buy this album. You will not be disappointed. If you've never heard Big Wreck, but like quality, melodic rock, give it a shot. By far the best album I've heard in 2014. I cannot stop listening to it, or telling people about how great it is. When you hear an album this good, you want others to enjoy it as much as you. Hence why I wrote this review.

There's not a disappointing moment on this whole album for me. An excellent progression from the Albatross. Flawless vocals, flawless guitars and decadent guitar solos. This album will be the soundtrack to summer road trips and campfires. I very highly recommend it.

Geez, almost feel bad for issuing another 5 star rating - but Reader, this is a sincere rating as no doubt are all the others. I am a fan or good music played by talented musicians - and this CD certainly fits that bill. This is the type of music that grows on you with every listen - and sometimes it does take a few spins for some of the songs to grow on you - but grow they do! Absolutely love the guitar work, and the deep and textural layering - Pop it ain't (not that there is anything wrong with that...)! ;-) And Ian's vocals... what a power-house - reminds me a bit of Chris Cornell (Sound Garden, Temple of the Dog).

Can't wait to hear it live - yes folks, these guys really do play their own music!

I have never written an Amazon review before, but since I saw this has 12 reviews, all at 5 stars, I thought I better drop by and spoil the party .... NOT! This CD is amazing. Has a great 70's vibe, though it sounds nothing like a 70's album .. there's just something extraordinary about it. Tons of range. Looking forward to seeing them in October ... and I never heard of them before a friend turned me onto this CD.

Big Wreck is a band that just keeps getting better and better. I jumped on the Big Wreck train with "In Loving Memory Of...and never got off. 2012's "Albatross" is a great album and "Ghosts" continues the momentum. Lots of heavy guitars as evidenced in the open track "A Place To Call Home". Keep going, "Ghost" is an exceptional track and has hit written all over it. The guitar work on "Ghosts", the song, is reminiscent of "Voyage 34" by Porcupine Tree via Pink Floyd. I really like "Still Here" and "Come What May". This album is solid. You can't be disappointed with the triple guitar attack. Well done Mr. Thornley and band.

It's a shame that our Canadian radios don't play these songs. This is such a fine CD, it pains me that few people know of it. The songs are fantastic. The instrumentation is incredible. The songs are so involved, not just some basic beat that is so prevelant today. The recording is top notch (audiophile good). I wish all artists but this much effort into the recordings.

This is such a good album. I'm sofa king impressed with this entire set.
It's a grower meaning the longer you listen, the more you'll get hooked.
There's not a bad track on the entire disc and only one song I don't care for.
Maybe getting his co-guitarist from the original line up inspired but this is a deadly set of tunes from Ian and crew..

I liked their first two albums. I loved Thornley's solo work. This album felt different from their usual sound. It isn't bad but just not as solid as their other works. The songs lack a distinctiveness and seem overly long in some cases. Maybe it needs a few more listens but so far it isn't grabbing me like either of the Thornley albums.
