This was a really fun short book. It is full of entertaining and interesting characters. Although some of the plot is a bit as if, overall it is a good read. I really enjoyed it. The editing problems were forgivable.

HASH(0x9c480a5c) out of 5 stars A bit R-rated for my taste Dec 7 2012

Had no idea this book would be so graphic. Main character works at an "adult" store, meets fireman TY, within what one week, two??? they're going at it. There is a mystery involved even though it's a bit far-fetched. The author does have a comical writing style which I enjoyed, but I just thought the constant raw sex dialogue was over the top. The premise of something being hidden in gnome figures that bad guys want started out good, but what's in it just seemed silly. If you're not into graphic sex scenes and rude words, may want to pass this one up.

HASH(0x9c480ca8) out of 5 stars Funny, and some spice with the sugar Dec 29 2011

I bought this because the blurb cracked me up...and the book did not let me down. I laughed all the way through, and even got to experience a rather poignant romance. And then there's Ty...

Lots of sweet, and some serious spice that had me blushing, but then there's Ty...

...have I mentioned Ty?

*le sigh*

HASH(0x9c480ee8) out of 5 stars cute, fresh, funny, fun! March 20 2012
By Matthew Schiariti - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Based on the description I just had to pick up this book when it popped up in the kindle daily deals. I skimmed some reviews to see what I was getting myself into and was wondering if it was going to be a non stop sex romp considering the protagonist works in her town's only adult store. That's not the case. This book is an excellent blending of some adventure, some romance, some drama, lots of humor and lots of great characters.

The protagonist, Jane West is a VERY likable character. A widowed single mother of two she is pretty content in her life. While her mother in law (owner of said adult store) thinks she needs some bedroom action in the worst way, Jane's content to live her life having been mostly by herself since her husband died several years prior to the story's beginning. Her life turns topsy-turvy when several things happen on one fateful day while she and her two boys are out hitting garage sales. First her boys buy two garden gnomes. Innocent enough but things aren't always as they seem. She also meets hunky fireman Ty at a firehouse pancake breakfast that same day. Just so happens that he moved into the house two doors down from hers.

Animal husbandry, meth labs, forest fires, sexual tension, animal poop and bachelorette parties. Seems like it's feast or famine for Jane West when a couple of garden gnomes turn her quiet life in the plains of Montana on their ear.

This is Jennifer Zane's first book and I'm duly impressed. It seems like she's been doing this for a while. She describes scenes with their sights and sounds in great prose, giving the novel a great sense of place. She also knows her characters well. Each one has their own voice, their own back story and she does an excellent job of filling them out especially considering the book is only about 200 pages. The dialogue is snappy as well and while there are 'naughty bits' in the book they serve a purpose. They're not there for just shock value. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention the scenes inside the adult store are laugh out funny.

Let's face it. Garden Gnomes as the catalyst for adventure, romance and a little bit of naughtiness? How can you resist? Gnome on the Range is an inventive, cute, funny and heartfelt read from beginning to end. I'll be looking for more of Zane's work in the future because if they're as high quality as this first offering good times lie ahead.

HASH(0x9c48c180) out of 5 stars Bad puns and classic melodrama Feb. 1 2012

There is even a handlebar mustache on the villain. It is the classic romance and rescue story and I think it was very well done. Enjoy it for what it is and don't expect "true life" actions.
