Review

Praise for Geoff Pevere: "After almost 30 years of writing about the movies, Geoff Pevere's anti-establishment views are just as strong as ever, but now he wears them as com-fort-ably as an old leather jacket. He has always been more inter-ested in broad-ening people's interests than in trying to narrow them. In an age with almost unlim-ited access to film, just one stream in an onrushing tide of media, this is daring. For the boy who once had to wait months to see Citizen Kane, how-ever, it's simply a ges-ture of generosity." - Toronto Screen Shots Praise for Teenage Head: Venom and his sidekick, songwriter/guitarist Gord Lewis, deserved to be much bigger stars than they were. They likely would've been if not for a streak of bad luck that turned triumph into turmoil at every stage of Teenage Head's three decade run." - NOW Magazine

The funny thing here is that I was late to the party with respect to Teenage Head. I heard the buzz about the band, but it wasn't until the live album came out, that I really started to grasp how great they were musically. What comes through in this narrative is how it seems like circumstances played out in such a way that Teenage Head never achieved the success (sales/recognition) they deserved. A great live band yes, but deserving of so much more. Kudos to the author for placing us in the middle of the story, and taking us along for a great ride.

Never thought I’d see a book written about the best band Canada has ever produced. Now I have and its a great one. They never got the recognition they deserved but they will always be remembered by their legions of fans. A book worth reading a number of times. I have and I loved it. If you spent many nights watching them at various venues you will love this read. If you have only heard them on your turntable or CD player you will learn a lot about them. Enjoy.

A terrific, but sad story about one of Canada's greatest bands. I really enjoyed this book.

A really good book about a really great band. Growing up in Buffalo, I was fortunate to see Teenage Head many times on either side of the border. They definitely deserve greater rewards than what they have received, but those of us who saw them know that already, and I am sure they know it too.

Thanks for putting together this book so some of us can relive those great times, and the uninitiated can learn. Now, someone (Rhino?) should put together a career-spanning greatest hits retrospective, as so many of their songs were catchy, energetic, great rock and roll.

RIP Frankie

Nice quick read. The somewhat sad story of what should have been one of the biggest bands to come out of Canada.
