Product Description

You can’t choose who you fall in love with. Despite assuming from a young age that he was gay, Scott Murphy couldn’t imagine life without Shelly. He threw away the label he'd stuck on his sexuality and had eleven amazing years with her, but now, he feels even more lost trying to figure out how to move on after Shelly’s death. After nearly a year of watching Scott fade away, Shelly’s father forces him to start living again.

As much as Chris loathes the idea of attending a bereavement group week after week, it’s one of the only places he can go in this town, other than the bar, to not feel so alone. When there’s nothing to distract him or dull his senses, he spends too much time obsessing over how he should have been able to help his sister. When Scott shows up at his group session, Chris decides that maybe some good can come out of his sister’s death.

There’s no denying that Chris is the first man to catch Scott’s attention in a long time, but how can he move on when just thinking of Shelly sends him to his dark place?

The road to recovery won’t be an easy one, but Chris is determined to help Scott see that life is still worth living. But before Scott can allow himself to admit what he feels for Chris, he knows he has to reveal the full truth about Shelly’s death.

Wow... This book started off tough. I was crying by page 3. The way this author handled this subject was heart-warming and believable. My heart ached. I was invested.

You can’t choose who you fall in love with. Despite knowing from a young age that he was gay, Scott Murphy couldn’t imagine life without Shelly. He threw away the labels and had eleven amazing years with her, but now, he feels even more lost trying to figure out how to move on after Shelly’s death.

Scott and Chris meet at group grief therapy and there is some chemistry but Scott is nowhere near ready to let anyone in his life. What this journey shows is Scott coming to grips with Shelly's death and letting people back in to his life, and his heart. There is some light paranormal and the author did it in a way that warmed your heart and was believable. This is a tough subject to write about (you will know when you read it) And I felt this whole story was a realistic view of what people go through. Sometimes you read stories because you want to get caught up in a journey and other times, you want a dose of reality. This story will do both!! There was anger and anguish, and love and lust. It was a heart-wrenching and heart-warming journey that will have you cheering and smiling through tears. The intimacy (sexyyyy time) was smoking hot!!!! Bring extra panties :)

Some people might even find it therapeutic to read this story. They will see there is a light at the end of a very tough tunnel.

Good job Sloan Johnson!!!
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

4 1/2 Hearts Reviewed by Prime

This is one intense read. Be prepared and make sure you have a box of tissues, too. The emotions swirling around in this book are just so many and so vivid. This also touches on a couple of controversial areas: euthanasia and life after after/haunting/spiritual guide (not sure how to describe the latter, really).

There are three characters that tell the story, first there is Shelly, wife to main character Scott who is dying of an incurable form of cancer. Then of course there is Scott, who is really having a difficult coming to terms with the loss of his best and wife. His sexuality at first confused me too, because he has always known he was gay and was always Shelly’s gay BFF. Yet at the same time he was jealous of Shelly’s boyfriends before they got together. I think in context to the story it was really doing my head in, despite the simple explanation he fell in love with her and not her body. (Whoa, that was almost the start of a rant!). Then there is Chris, he is equal measures of sweet and stubborn (particularly towards the end). I feel sorry for him at times. His sister died and not coping too well, he attends a grief counselling group, where he meets Scott, who has fallen in the year after losing Shelly. Now, the reason I feel sorry for Chris is that Scott seems to use him at first. Different people mourn differently, I know. In Scott’s case he has had to deal with losses that also include some crappy parents. Despite me rationally knowing all this, I evidently felt frustrated at times.

But don’t let my venting of character flaws dissuade you! This is really a brilliant book. And when my only complaint is these character flaws, I don’t think that I can ask for much better.

HASH(0xa61f01e0) out of 5 stars The story of my life March 11 2015

As a formerly married gay man who lost his wife to cancer, I could relate totally to this book. I also loved my wife dearly and she was my best friend. Her parents and siblings were my family and accepted me as one of their own it was not an ideally situation, but its worked for us. There was never a lack of love.

This is a beautiful book ... The story goes beyond death.

Right front the start the narrative is so interesting and emotional ... That the characters and their story is something to want to explore.

Scott and Chris are two men trying to recover from the loss of a love one. They meet at a support group. Scott is intrigued by Chris and his attitude, but he is not ready for what could come between them.

Scott's life and emotional state are still fragile and Chris is afraid to get closer to him because of his profession. But ... life doesn't work that way.

A close encounter changes the dynamic of the relationship and makes them evaluate the possibility of more.

It is really hard sometimes to see Scott suffering but trying , at the same time it is refreshing to see how persistent Chris is when it comes to Scott.

The both of them have to learn how to move forward and have to understand that sometimes you have to accept the help ..

I love the way the families are there accepting the natural progression of the new lives in the middle of the heartbreaking losses.

This is a must read story of death, dreams, acceptance and promises of love.

ARC received from the author in exchange of an honest review.

HASH(0xa602f510) out of 5 stars Godsend could have been good but was not. Feb. 15 2015

As I started to read Godsend I found out that this was a different MM book than I was accustom to. The book opens up as Scott and his wife Shelly prepare for her death. They have a last supper then the next morning she ended her life with dignity. I might have cried but I hated this part. I hate it when authors play with the readers emotions like that. Scott and Shelly were in a relationship for 11 year. I almost snorted because he was a straight for you gay man. I think I could have liked the book even after all this if Scott and Chris were believable as a couple or if Scott was likeable. I found that the secondary characters were more likeable than the main ones.

Godsend is another fantastic m/m romance from Sloan Johnson, and this is my favourite book of hers by far, in any genre she has written.

I gotta tell you, she goes straight for the heart with this one. I was ugly crying and I hadn't even finished reading the prologue! She gets a tight grip around your heart and there is no letting up until you read the final words.

There are some heartbreaking situations in Godsend, and Ms Johnson has handled them sensitively and poignantly. Though situations I hope none of us ever has to go through, the way they are written draw me right into the heart of the story. If you are not reaching for the tissues in the first 5 minutes, you are so much stronger than me!

Scott and Chris's story is more than just a love story. It is a story of loss, grief, sorrow. It is a story about moving forward, rebuilding lives, and finding love again.

The way Scott and Chris interact is beautiful. So touching, but so strong. They are what each other thinks they don't need. I loved that Chris does not give up on Scott, that they both - eventually - fight for each other.

Ms Johnson does not shy away from the hard subjects in her writing. And I love her for it! While the subject matter of Godsend may be a difficult one to read, she does it with sympathy. I adore her writing style, get drawn into each and every story.

I think Ms Johnson has found her niche with m/m romance with an edge.

I can't wait to see what she brings us next.
