I like Pixar films but there's just something about this one that I don't like. I guess this is good for children but as an animator myself I felt like it could have made a good TV movie instead of a feature Pixar film. To be honest I can't even finish it. I've tried watching it 4 times now and I can only get half way without falling asleep or doing something else. The story leaves a lot to be desired.

The film starts off with a comical meteor head fake which gave me a chuckle as the movie starts out being funny on two levels. Unfortunately that was my last real laugh. This was the age when talking dinosaurs with knowledge of agriculture and architecture lived with feral humans. Think Dino and the Flintstones in role reversals. Arlo is the runt of his siblings wanting to make his mark. He is tasked with killing the varmint eating their corn...a human. Oh yes they live in temperate zone America...or so it seems. He is a scared Brontosaurus type who is awkward and has trouble killing the human, eventually named Spot, who acts like a dog. The film didn't turn interesting again until Sam Elliot enters the scene, but by then it was too little too late.

I am sure the younger kids will like it while older ones may crave something else. It is something for family night.

Had high expectations for this movie but it fell really flat. There were a couple of fun moments, but it was really slow and it never had the energy to draw you in and keep you (or the kids) engaged. Wait for Zootopia and pick that up instead.

VIDEO (3D):

'The Good Dinosaur 3D' arrives on blu-ray with MPEG-4 MVC 1080p 2.39:1 encode. There is tremendous depth, like the cracking of the egg at the beginning of the movie, but the colour somehow is not as rich as in the 2D. (4/5)

VIDEO (2D):

'The Good Dinosaur 2D' arrives on blu-ray with MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 2.39:1 encode. Colours are vibrant and full of life. There is also insane clarity with tremendous details, like textures on leaves, rock faces, human skin, and dinosaur scales. This is a pristine transfer. (5/5)

AUDIO:

'The Good Dinosaur' arrives on blu-ray with DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio track. This soundtrack is both impressive and immersive, like the sequence when Arlo was swept away by the river. Here, you hear the sound of the river currents coming at you from all channels. Of course the bass was deep with the dinosaur foot thumping. Dialogue is flawlessly prioritized. Nice soundtrack. (4/5)

PACKAGING:

I do not appreciate Disney’s cheap approach to stack the 3D disc on top of the 2D disc. Come on, Disney, you can do better than that – how about a flipcase for 3 discs set?

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This was Pixar Animation Studios' sixteenth feature film. This film was in production for six years, and had a lot of production issues and delay, with change of directors, almost complete replacement of voice casts, including John Lithgow and Neil Patrick Harris, with only Frances McDormand remained. Besides script changes, the Music Director was changed from Thomas Newman to Mychael Danna. The release dates were pushed back several times. As a result, 'Finding Dory', scheduled for November 2015 released was pushed back to June 17 2016.

I was really looking forward to this movie and was disappointed overall. I watched it with my 9 and 10 year old sons and it was definitely directed towards a younger crowd. There were a few laugh-out-loud moments and Spot the Human was ridiculously adorable, but for the most part I would recommend that parents with older children skip this one. There isn't much for adults to enjoy here either.

Young children will enjoy this one but parents be warned- there are some violent and quite sad parts in the movie. Be prepared before you allow a sensitive child to watch.

The only reason that I gave this one 4 stars instead of 3 is the stunning animation. The animation is spectacular and at times I couldn't believe that it wasn't live action. That almost (almost!) makes this worth the watch.

Fabulous movie. adorable and great animation. We all enjoyed the movie tremendously. I wasn't sure I would enjoy but great for adults as well. Yes it has some tender and thrilling moments as a precaution to young kids. My kids are 8 and 10 so got over it quickly. I highly recommend.

Cute movie my boys loved it. Only downfall was with the digital copy, they had an European code instead of North American so we had to call Disney Canada for the correct code.
