Product Description

"The photographers and writers who lived and worked in Encampment, like Earle Clemens, and Lora Nichols and now Candy Moulton, have done so much to chronicle the town's story. History does get lost. We must all learn it and pass it on." -- Vera Oldman

About the Author

Authors Candy Moulton and Terry A. Del Bene are independent historians. Candy is a native of Encampment, Wyoming, and has published 13 books. Terry is an anthropologist and archaeologist and has published three books. In this volume, the hardy folks who lived and worked in the Grand Encampment area from its earliest development to the present are captured in photographs from all eras and in places throughout the Grand Encampment valley. These images come from private and public collections. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This book was "good for starters," and no doubt the authors had difficulty condensing the history of Grand Encampment into such a "Cliff Notes" type of format. However, I think some of the items could have been better researched, or notated. Some of the photo identifications don't seem to quite ring true - at least in terms of some certain particular family lore. It also seems that a lot of the colorful local folks were left out of the picture in favor of concentrating in the obvious - that being the mining/ore trade that gave the town its economy, but does not necessarily describe the wealth behind in the character of its amazing people.
3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting to me due to personal family history Jan. 15 2014

Would be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in settling of the old west. Our family was a founding family in Grand Encampment and so it was very interesting to us.
