Great book for anybody, also in seniors age, who would like to pursue this physically and also mentally challenging pilgrimage.I am leaving for Camino next week, "grandma's" daily reflections on her walk, her struggles, but also her happy encounters, had given me inspiration and very positive outlook for Caminos completion. Some of the passages I found a bit loo long.

HASH(0x9d9b8c18) out of 5 stars Grahdma's on the Camino-rated by A&B Feb. 1 2013

Having read two other books about the Camino walk, this one is by far and a way the best. Through her postcards home and daily journal she lets you live each day as it happened. Then her reflections on each day from home expand on the days experience and give insight as to what she was thinking during the long lonely days. She sees the humor in the experience of the nights in the "Refugio" and sometimes near journey ending accidents. A great read for those into long walks, communing with nature, serious meditation or just to enjoy a delightful chapter before bedtime. As she ends with the quote from Deepak Chopra, "When I am fnishished with my work and gone, I'll have done what I came to do, and that's enough."

HASH(0x9d9f1d20) out of 5 stars Hilda's Review Jan. 26 2013

This is one more book of many about the camino walk in Spain, and extremly interesting to one who has read more than a few. Those I have read have a spiritual atmosphere, as befits a pilgrimage to a shrine in Northern Spain.
I really enjoyed this book on many levels, especially the warm, personal family stories found throughout. I also enjoyed the many, many humorous anecdotes.
I also found the book so easy to read, in the way it is organized--a chapter a day, for each day of 48 days of walking. In addition, the author has an uncanny knack for describing scenes in realistic, sensual detail--at times so vivid as to cause gooebumps. A book for all ages, not just the 5 year old grandaughter.

I was especially drawn to the descriptions in the book as I also walked the Camino in 2010, but only for the last 70 miles. Her postcard notes, journal writings and later reflections 'took me back' to my experiences, but even more important made me want to walk it again. And do the entire 500 mile journey as she did. Since I have at least a few more years until I turn 70, the opportunity may present itself and I will hopefully be able to do as well as she did. Loved it!

HASH(0x9db09528) out of 5 stars A lovely read Sept. 24 2013

Mary's generous spirit is such a wonderful companion as I read about her adventures which are so beautifully described. That she remembers the flowers, the cicadas, the caterpillars, the birth of the goat, and the varied companions at the meals(and how delicious they are) is remarkable! I am inspired by her description of Centering Prayer. It has obviously permeated all her observations of herself and others as well as fostered her delight in the world around her! Brava!

My husband and I enjoyed this book very much. We were lucky enough to have met the author and shared a dinner table with her on a recent cruise. Very lovely lady. What a brave and exciting adventure to share with her grandaughter and her readers. Well done.
