I was so super excited to read this book because it's so hard to find a decent Canadian travel book. I liked that this one wasn't made by a native because he will see and observe things that born-and-bred Canadians simply won't. Robin Esrock doesn't pretend that this book is a travel guide - it is a book of IDEAS of things to do and see but there is little to no information on lodging, restaurants, and even sometimes how to get to these sights at all. I was disappointed by that because this book cannot replace Lonely Planet, but The Great Canadian Bucket List has so much cool stuff I never knew you could do. I never knew half this stuff existed in Canada. It's all colours and beautiful pictures and awesome ideas for every single province, even Nunavut! Robin Esrock is publishing 3 new books which will focus on specific provinces so I am really looking forward to those. While The Great Canadian Bucket List is a fantastic start to a series of Canadian travel books, it is more like a general idea than an in-depth exploration.

This book is a must-have for any Canadian or immigrant interested in exploring the country!

The "bucket list book" has become a cliche; hundreds of travel guides line bookstore shelves, all highlighting amazing must-see places before you die. Certainly, they feature awe-inspiring destinations but few convey a true sense of place. "The Great Canadian Bucket List," on the other hand, boasts an author who has personally visited 105 of the 115 items on his list. And Robin Esrock doesn't write like he works in the tourism industry; he tells it like it is. Yes, Niagara Falls teems with tackiness and screaming kids but the spectacular scenery more than makes up for it.

The Vancouver-based travel writer has explored over 100 countries on six continents and recognizes that Canadians take their country for granted. Many look to Europe and Asia without first discovering their own back yards. Esrock doesn't gloss over the fact that many of his bucket list items involve time and expense, such as seeing the northern lights. However, he also includes seemingly ordinary experiences that actually create lifelong memories: eating smoked meat in Montreal or strolling the Stanley Park seawall.

So where to begin? Any Canadian can start a fantastic journey close to home and Esrock's book can provide inspiration to take the first step.

I had no idea there were so many things to experience in Canada. I've traveled around the globe twice and always overlooked my own home country. As someone who loves travel and adventure, this book the perfect guide book for adventure in Canada. I also found the companion website to be very helpful. My only negative feedback is that the cost of some of these trips are out of my budget but I can't blame the author for that....I can only blame my own bank account!

Canada is a unique country that is truly diverse in size and culture. This travel book captures the essence of the country and the people that live here. I have now bought copies for our grown children so they have a guide as where to start in the journey of exploring Canada. I would recommend this to non-travellers also as it is an easy and informative read and gives the non-Canadian an idea of what we have to offer for exploring. Well written and worth having as a reference book.

I love this book. I learned so much about our country and have more things to add to my Bucket List. I don't know whether I will get a chance to but it's given me more to dream about and more reachable things.

This is a great book for discovering what Canada has to offer. You may not do many (or any) of the suggestions that Robin makes but you will learn about every nook and cranny of the country and why exploration is the best way to learn. A wonderful book for armchair travellers, too. This book was obviously written by someone who loves Canada! Great book.
