I bought this recently before going to see The Welsh National Opera's Donizetti Season 2013. Whilst it doesn't cover those Donizetti operas, it does cover the main most preferred and loved operas.
I would not say it was 5 Star, but I would say read it if you want a basic intro into the best and most favourite /famous operas. The sections on the most well known (La Traviata, Nabucco, Magic Flute, Tosca, Carmen) are good and there are even sections on Britten which is interesting as I didn't know much about him.
The text is well presented and well set out as well, going from short synopsis to characters and then slightly more in-depth explanation of the course of the show to be anticipated.
When one gets to the Opera then one can get the Programme, but I always find I have little time to read it before the show starts so for nothing else get it to sort out those operas you would wish to see firstly and when you have selected them to read a little about them before attending.
A good comprehensive start before more fuller examination.
