Product Description

Ava’s life is . . . complicated.

After all, it’s not every day a girl learns she’s not entirely human, or unlocks hidden powers strong enough to make even the First Race sit up and take notice. After surviving an attempted kidnapping and standing up to the Race’s Ruling Council, Ava Michaels returns to college and what she hopes is a normal life. But Ava quickly realizes that for her, normal may not even exist anymore.

In fact, the Council wants her under their control, and they’re not the only ones. The mysterious Rogues have a plan of their own, and it turns out Ava’s a big part of it, whether she wants to be or not.

On top of that, her new relationship is tested in ways she never expected. Her boyfriend, Caleb Foster, has disappeared—accused of betraying the Race—and Ava herself stands implicated in a crime she didn’t commit.

Clearing both their names will mean uncovering a web of deceit and intrigue with Ava woven right in the center. To unravel the strands, she joins forces with some unlikely allies; a Protector who once haunted her nightmares, a young girl with secrets as unexpected as Ava’s, and a group of rebel Guardians who have their own fight against the Council.

Together they stand in a battle to find the truth, bring Caleb home, and secure Ava’s freedom—not to mention save her life.

HASH(0xa2d48558) out of 5 stars Memorable Character and Pulse-Pounding Action! Nov. 4 2013

TM Franklin hits another one out of the park! The Guardians, the second book in the More series, is a downright captivating young adult paranormal suspense novel. Picking up a few months after the first book ends, Franklin masterfully continues to build her unique alternate world of Race, Half-Breeds, and Rogues.

As this story begins, Ava is back at college, transitioning into life with the humans while the Council watches to make sure she stays quiet about the Race. Ava and Caleb’s feelings have deepened as Caleb continues to train Ava to use and hone her abilities. Ava’s world turns on its head when Caleb is accused of betraying the Council by joining the Rogues. Caleb runs, and Tiernan Ross, a Protector, is brought in to bring Caleb before the Council. Ava doesn’t believe that Caleb has switched sides and convinces Tiernan to let her come along while he tracks down Caleb. Ava is still a determined, stubborn, and brave character who won’t take no for an answer. I loved that Ava remains true to the character that I absolutely fell in love with in the first book. As Ava and Tiernan search for Caleb, they put their differences aside and surprisingly start building a friendship. I wasn’t a huge fan of Tiernan in the first story, but this time, his character grew on me as he becomes friends with Ava. Franklin consummately balances building new relationships and introducing new characters along with further developing her multilayer plot arcs into a stunning page-turning read.

Once again, I was so fully drawn into Franklin’s original world of Race and Rouges that I read this book in one sitting. Franklin nicely ties up the major plot points of the second book, answers some lingering questions from the first book, and leaves just enough unanswered questions about the Rouges to leave readers anxious for the conclusion of the More series. Memorable characters, pulse-pounding action, and an intricate plot make The Guardians a perfect read for adults and teens alike. If the first two books are any indication, then the third book in the More series should be epic. I, for one, cannot wait to see how this series will end.

I received an eBook copy of the book from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

HASH(0xa2d485ac) out of 5 stars A sequel even better than the first! Dec 13 2013
By Sara @ Forever 17 Books - Published on
Format: Paperback
4.5 stars!

After a wonderful debut by this author with the first installment of this series More (my review), The Guardians was an amazing and action-packed sequel that did not disappoint!

There were so many elements I adored about this novel. Right off the bat, we get some sweet and swoony moments between our two main characters, Ava and Caleb, showing us just how much their relationship had progressed since More. I must say, this approach totally won me over. I was instantly right back with these two and anxious for, well, more! It was such a sweet slow build in the first book with a romance that had just begun to bloom and here we get the payoff! It was so worth it! We also learn a lot more about this life and secret world they live in, including their powers and those of others around them. Ava and Caleb find themselves in danger once again and with a twist on the whole damsel in distress storyline, it is Ava who is off to rescue her man, with the help of an unlikely ally.

Ava just becomes more and more likeable as the series progresses. She has such a fire and she wants to tap into all of her potential and powers. There are a few scenes where I felt like I was in an X-Men movie. So much excitement with all of these extreme powers swirling around that were just crazy good. If you are a fan of that, this is definitely a series to check out. Not to mention new characters who entered the fold that left me wondering just who to trust.

The world building continued to grow, like the characters. As with what the title suggests, the Guardians play a huge role this time as well as learning about Ava’s mysterious past, pulling all the pieces together of this whole Race and the war brewing among them. The pacing was perfect and I am left desperately needing the final installment!

This is one sequel that drew me in and wouldn’t let go! I strongly recommend this series if you like swoony boys, strong girls and of course some paranormal aspects that pack a punch!

HASH(0xa2d489e4) out of 5 stars The Guardians Oct. 11 2013
By Lindsey - Published on
Format: Paperback
Please note: I received this book for free via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity!

In The Guardians, book two of the More series, we read as Ava continues learning of her Race blood and the powers and abilities that come with it. Alongside her is Caleb, her boyfriend. When something happens to Caleb, Ava must do everything in her power to find him, but will or friends and new acquaintances help or hinder her during her journey?

And more, who exactly is Ava, and what is her destiny to be?

I really enjoyed reading The Guardians and it definitely was successful in holding my interest enough to finish it in one sitting, just like the first book. The mystery of Ava, and Caleb's disappearance, was fun to read, and I was able to connect with the characters enough to feel the outrage, happiness, and even fear on their behalf at certain points in the story. This story was very well-written, which was in evidence that I couldn't even put it down once while reading, so entertaining was the read.

The characters were fun to read as the story progressed. I admit that I was not a huge fan of Tiernan or Katherine in the first book, but The Guardians kind of redeemed them in my eyes, so to speak. They definitely grew on me, and I'm glad I continued the series. I think that if I were to wish for one thing, though, it would be for there to be more relationship-building between Ava and Caleb.

Overall, though, The Guardians was a great read, and I would most certainly consider purchasing my own finished copy for my collection. I would recommend this book and it's predecessor to anyone who enjoys reading upper young adult/new adult books with a little bit of everything included – romance, mystery, suspense, and even a little action.

I can't wait for the next book in the series.

HASH(0xa2d48da4) out of 5 stars Good read! Oct. 21 2013

***I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.***

I really enjoyed reading The Guardians, book two in The More series, and had a really hard time putting the book down. I ended up reading it in about 4 hours. It had a little bit of everything from romance, mystery, suspense, characters with super powers, and a lot of action.
In this beautifully written sequel, Ava learns more about her Race given telekinetic abilities and how strong her powers are. She is such a strong and multi-dimensional character; I found it really easy to connect with her. I wasn't a huge fan of Caleb in this book. He came off as a very stand-offish for most of the book.

I wish there was more development in the relationship between Caleb and Ava. Maybe it was in the first book? I haven't read that one yet but I do plan to.

Overall, though, The Guardians was a fast paced and good read. I most likely would have given it a five star rating on Goodreads if there had been more of a development between Ava and Caleb's relationship. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading romance, mystery, suspense, and action packed stories.

HASH(0xa2d48e88) out of 5 stars Great installment to MORE trilogy Nov. 29 2013

Format: Paperback
I just finished the latest book written by T.M. Franklin: The Guardians, and I loved it! I had trouble putting it down! When I wasn't reading it, I found myself thinking about it and coming up with solutions to the more difficult scenarios. The Guardians should come with a warning label; I was horrified, laughing out loud, crying, and, once, hyperventilating all while reading the same chapter! Compelling, mysterious, and addictive, The Guardians is a perfect read for lovers of tales of adventure! The detailed descriptions of everything really made me feel as if I were in the story, watching from the sidelines. This must read covers a bit of action, romance, and the supernatural, and I will be recommending it to all of my friends! Although I am anxiously awaiting the third and final installment of this trilogy, I will be disappointed when it ends because I have grown to love, care, and feel for the characters!
