English author H. G. Wells is best known for his work in the science fiction genre. He was also a prolific writer in many other genres, including contemporary novels, history, politics, and social commentary, even writing textbooks and rules for war games. He was born on September 21, 1866, and died on August 13, 1946.

Michael A. Cramer, PhD, is a writer, an actor, and a filmmaker, who teaches communications at City College of New York and at Borough of Manhattan Community College. He is the author of A Confederacy of Whores: Media and Politics in George W. Bush's America and Medieval Fantasy as Performance: The Society for Creative Anachronism and the Current Middle Ages, as well as numerous articles, short stories, screenplays and chap-books. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

The son of a professional cricketer and a lady's maid, H. G. Wells (1866-1946) served apprenticeships as a draper and a chemist's assistant before winning a scholarship to the prestigious Normal School of Science in London. While he is best remembered for his groundbreaking science fiction novels, including The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau, Wells also wrote extensively on politics and social matters and was one of the foremost public intellectuals of his day.

I was very impressed with this book. I’ve never read anything by Wells before and this included the three novels I was interested in so I picked it up. Very nice cover and artwork inside the front and back covers. The paper is a nice quality and I love that it has the ribbon bookmark. My mother made a comment about the print being kind of small. That’s not something that bothers me and wouldn’t affect my rating but I include it just as something to be aware of if that kind of thing is important for you.

This is a gorgeous hardcover with gold-edged pages that replaced my damaged HG Wells collection nicely. A bonus: It was on sale for just over $20 when I purchased it; what a bargain!
