**Acclaim for the Jim Knighthorse Series**

"J.R. Rain is an ex-private investigator, and it shows; Dark Horse is another fast moving and entertaining detective story. Rain is surely destined for larger success; his fiction is fun reading."
—PIERS ANTHONY, bestselling author of A spell for Chameleon and On a Pale Horse

"I finished Dark Horse late last night. I enjoyed it immensely—very good story! I really liked your dialogue, which kept me chuckling each time I sat down to read the book. Add great character and scene descriptions and a well-paced plot, and you've got a gripping story indeed. I can easily see Dark Horse moving to the big screen!"
—AIDEN JAMES, bestselling author of Plague of Coins and The Vampires' Last Lover

"Dark Horse is one of the best books I've read in a long time! A great classic detective story with a modern twist. Unique and interesting characters (I think I'm half in love with Jim Knighthorse now!), a great plot that kept me guessing until the end, and some of the funniest lines I've read anywhere. Rain does an amazing job of blending suspense, mystery and humor in this fantastic debut novel destined for the keeper shelf."
—GEMMA HALLIDAY, three-time RITA nominee and National Readers' Choice award winning author of Spying in High Heels and Fearless in High High Heels

If you are an animal lover, it would be unfair of me to not warn you that parts of this book are hard. Really hard. However, Jim Knighthorse is better each and every time I read one...and I have to say that this is a wonderful read. Highly recommended. Thanks J.R., you did it again!

HASH(0x9e97e09c) out of 5 stars Beware...Reason it's 3 and not 5 stars July 13 2012

I've enjoyed this series immensely. I like JR Rain's snappy style of writing in both this series and Samantha Moon. But this particular book has a lot of animal cruelty described in it, and while the outcome ended up ok, reading about it was extremely difficult. I know you can say why did you read it if it disturbs you so much? I had to see where he went with it once he introduced it in the book. Now that I've read it, I can't get the horrific images out of my head.Because I didn't know what was in the book, I felt violated in a way. I choose what subject matter I read about and expose myself to. I didn't have a choice. It's the reason I didn't give this five stars.

I liked how he resolved situations and he has developed his characters well over the course of the series. The discussions with Jack are really interesting and the whole concept is quite imaginative.

Worth the time and money to read the series. Read them in order. Just beware if you are sensitive to animals and animal cruelty.

HASH(0x9e97e060) out of 5 stars Edgy, fast-paced page turner with a great detective and a lot of heart Nov. 13 2011

In this exciting third novel of J.R. Rain's noir mystery series with savvy, snappy dialogue, Jim Knighthorse gets closer and closer to his mother's killer as he strives to solve the mystery of her death from over two decades ago. When Jim is hired to solve the death of an animal activist, his main case for this book, his pursuit of extremely bad guys on the open sea crosses into international waters and reveals the dark underbelly of a certain type of commercial enterprise, one that will send chills up your spine. Jim's beautiful girlfriend Cindy is back and things are heating up with that storyline as he wrestles with some personal issues and starts making changes in his life that will move you to cheer for him. Jack (aka "God") is back in this book and they have quite an interesting spiritual conversation inside a McDonald's, one that I won't forget. The eclectic cast of characters in Jim Knighthorse books contribute to realistic, gritty mysteries with heart and soul -- the plot goes deep into the human psyche and what we believe about life, death, and love. Occasional wry humor gives comic relief as the intrepid detective pokes fun at himself and enjoys the camaraderie of Sanchez and other offbeat sidekicks. When solving a murder, who should you trust? Find out how Jim uncovers the truth in Hail Mary! Recommended series and books, 5 stars. Read them all and especially, this one! -- Eve Paludan, author of Letters from David

I won't detail the story, but just say that if you haven't got it yet, get it! I checked the website for 10 days after finishing previous book. Just couldn't wait and was mad at myself cause I couldn't put it down and was finished in a few hours. I love everything about this series. I love Jim and hope that we see him again soon.

Thanks for another great story.

HASH(0x9e97e84c) out of 5 stars Entertaining Jan. 18 2013

I just finished all three Jim Knighthorse books back to back. Though at the beginning the main character irritated the hell out of me, he was also very funny and with time really grew on me. The author's writing is mostly fluent, a few grammar mistakes here and there but nothing mayor. Though in the second book one character's name was first Walt Tomlinson and the next page he then was Gary Tomlinson. Then on the third book Knighthorse is talking to the detective Hansen and then Hansen turns into Sanchez and back to Hansen again. Wasn't a big deal, kinda funny that the author and the editor didn't catch that though. There were also some really hard subjects for me which was the finning of sharks and what was used for bait. There were times I cried because animal cruelty is the most horrible thing in the world for me and even though I know this book was fiction, in real life the scenario described in here does exist for real. I did love how the main character dealt with it though :)
The author did a wonderful job in adding humor throughout the book. There were plenty of parts were I just laughed out loud.
On another note, it surprised me a bit that the main crime, what scarred and changed Knighthorse, was just so shortly dealt with. In all books Knighthorse deals with 2-3 cases at a time but all the other cases got far more attention than the one that was most important to him.
Overall, I liked all three very much. His friends Sanchez and Jack are wonderful additions to the book and I will read the fourth one as soon as it is available.
