If short-tempered Jason can open his heart and life to optimistic Abe, he might finally find the family he craves.

Short-tempered, arrogant heart surgeon Jason Garcia grew up wanting a close-knit family, but believes he ruined those dreams when he broke up his marriage. The benefit of divorce is having as much random sex as he wants, and it's a benefit Jason is exploiting when he meets a sweet, shy man at a bar and convinces him to go home for a no-strings-attached night of fun.

Eight years living in Las Vegas hasn't dimmed Abe Green's optimism, earnestness, or desire to find the one. When a sexy man with lonely eyes propositions him, Abe decides to give himself a birthday present—one night of spontaneous fun with no thoughts of the future. But one night turns into two and then three, and Abe realizes his heart is involved.

For the first time, Abe feels safe enough with someone he respects and adores to let go of his inhibitions in the bedroom. If Jason can get past his own inhibitions and open his heart and his life to Abe, he might finally find the family he craves.

I really, really enjoyed this story. While I did think that it lacked a little in terms of details, overall, it was a complete story.

Abe and Jason are great together. Their chemistry is both steamy and loving. They have a great dynamic and Cardeno really grows their relationship. What starts out as a random meeting, turns in to a great story of self-discovery and love.

Jason seems to have a lot of issues with relationships, Abe wants to be in a relationship. Despite their different approaches, Abe really helps Jason feel loved, worthy of love and helps foster a growing relationship between Jason and his family. In return, Jason allows Abe to be the sexual creature he's always fantasized about. Their sex is both steamy, hot, sensual and gentle.

I also really enjoyed Jason's family. Donny, Angela and Kristen are great additions and really help lay the groundwork for the rest of the story. I found that their interactions were realistic and helped the reader understand the psychological barriers that Jason had to overcome. I enjoyed that Abe was able to have a relationship with Kristen outside of Jason and that despite them not knowing about each other, everyone was able to mesh really well.

Despite wanting a little more about Donny, I thought that even with the little snippet of his issues, it really helped the story come to conclusion. The family dynamic was a great addition as well. All of the twists and turns in this story - in the end, it was about finding love, holding on to family and being there for each other.

This book can absolutely be read stand alone; the Family series is about the story’s theme not the characters; if you love gay romance where the men are meant to be together; where you can feel the attraction through the pages then I highly recommend you 1-click The Half of Us now!

The Half of Us is the story of heart surgeon Dr Jason Garcia; yes think ego and Abe Green; I will not tell you Abe’s profession because the how this ties into the story was too much fun experiencing while reading it; so I don’t want ruin it for the reader.

I loved that I got to know these men while they got to know each other; CC bonded these men with rich dialogue, dialogue that came as Jason slowly opened up to Abe.

Witnessing Abe opening up in the bedroom, feeling so comfortable with Jason was hot and endearing. You think Abe is the shy one to Jason big personality but was they come together Abe’s opening up makes him even more desirable to Jason (and the reader).

I adored how the changes in Jason were because of Jason, Abe never pushed. Jason wanted Abe, he wanted to be more for Abe; he wanted to be with Abe and he slowly made more and more room for Abe in his live.

The use of Jason’s cousin Asher and ex-wife to get Jason to embrace what was happening between he and Abe was really well done.
And Jason’s children played pivotal roles in this story a story about a Dad, a man who was so alone, alone until Jason opens his heart to Abe. Jason’s opening up allows him to see all he was missing in his life.

Jason’s journey was so powerful, in the end he knows he wants Abe in his life and he starts to fear what if Abe does not want this; this is such growth for Jason!

Jason’s children play another pivotal role toward the end of the book, it was so well done. And in the end the way Jason folds Abe into his family, the family Jason wasn’t sure he would ever have was powerfully poignant.
Jason learned that family is about love; the kind of love the grabs your heart, makes your toes tingle, and is all encompassing.

Thank you CC; this story it warmed my heart, touched my soul and made me believe in love!

HASH(0xa6d32600) out of 5 stars A great, fun M/M romance! Oct. 18 2014

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through Wicked Reads.

I loved this book! So far I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, but this one is by far my favorite.
Jason Garcia spent his young adult days playing by the book. He went against his true nature and lived the way he was taught to, but eventually he lost the battle. He's gay and no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't pretend anymore. When he and his wife divorce he thinks that his chance at love, family, and forever are over so he sticks to an arrogant attitude, work-a-holic, and one night stand attitude.
Abe Green is the guy next door. He's cute, sweet, friendly, and caring, He's a teacher and all around fun loving guy. He has his values and he's comfortable with his lifestyle. He takes things slow and he knows what he wants.
When their paths cross and Abe decides to give in to a night of spontaneity they both have an amazing night and realize that it isn't enough. Soon enough that one night turn into more and Abe realizes that his his heart is involved. Jason is afraid. He isn't sure anything can really work and he's afraid of failing. Can Abe's loving, supportive ways convince Jason that forever can be a reality for them?
I read this one in no time because I couldn't put it down. Jason and Abe's romance is sweet, emotional, and real. They are hilarious together and the chemistry between them is great. With the blended family dynamic, this story is well rounded and very entertaining. This is one I will probably go back and re-read. I would recommend this to M/M reader who love a fun, sweet romance story. I look forward to more by Cardeno C.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

We all grow up with what we believe is the American Dream firmly planted in our minds. What happens when the dream in your mind doesn't match the dream in your heart? Jason Garcia has lived the dream and lost it all when his marriage failed, or so he believes. He blames himself, for not being strong, not being the man his ex-wife needed or deserved. Of not being the father he wanted to be to his kids.

He works and seeks the occasional one night stand to relieve the tension. All that changes when he meets Abe Green. Abe is day to Jason's night. Sweet and tender and so unlike the hook ups that has been his life for so many years. As much as he tries, Jason can't forget the warm hearted Abe and seeks him out.

Abe likes Jason and comes to realize that Jason could the man for him, the one to spend the rest of his life with. He senses that Jason is torn about what he feels for him and what he believes his life should be.

I really enjoyed this story and how the romance plays out. I wish we could have seen a little more of the kids and how they adjust and interact with both Abe and Jason.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Many stories are about the meeting and trying to hook up, the excitement of it all. This volume already has that. It's about the actual settling down. Jason tried marriage with a woman, but couldn't stay faithful. His reason for not being able to commit to the marriage is that he's gay, but in his mind, he believes that monogamy wasn't meant for him.

It was sex. That was a basic bodily need. In, out, done. That was his motto and he followed it religiously.

Jason has already lived it up, slept with more men than he can count, but after meeting Abe that lifestyle doesn't appear as glamorous as he thought it was.

He gazed into Abe's eyes as he came, the moment so painfully intimate that Abe knew he'd never be able to describe what they'd shared as just a hookup.

This change in his feelings also opens his eyes to other areas of his life that need work. I adore the whole family aspect of this story. It has plenty of heat, but we get the sweetness and real life problems as well. And I love how he has a great relationship with his ex-wife. So often the exes are portrayed as [...], but his ex is lovely. They're still best friends. This book has a cast of likable and relatable characters which I think is wonderful.

~this review may contain minor spoilers~

When he thought about how differently his life had turned out from what he'd worked and hoped for, he inevitably ended up in more bars looking for more liquor and more sex in the hope of forgetting that realization. It was a vicious cycle, but at least he was getting laid.

Jason Garcia isn't exactly living the family life he always expected. He is a very successful, if slightly arrogant, surgeon, but his marriage fell apart; of course, that might have something to do with his wife figuring out he was gay before he did... Now that he is single again, forming another attachment to someone is not something he is interested in, sex is all he is after ~ no-strings, no-commitment, one time only sex ~ and lots of it. He is perfectly content living his life this way, until he meets the man who changes everything.

Abe Green is a shy, reserved, quiet guy who is more comfortable spending the night at home reading a book than out at the bar. He is a relationship kind of guy who doesn't have the thick skin it takes for a one-night stand, until he meets Jason on a night out for his birthday and decides to let loose for once. But one night turns into two, which turns into three, and before he knows it his heart is taking over against his will. Jason makes it clear from the beginning that a relationship is not on the table, he just doesn't have it in him to be monogamous; but spending time with Abe is proving to be harder to resist than he thought it would be, especially when Abe starts to let go of all his inhibitions and shows Jason a side of him that no one has ever seen before. Could Abe be the future Jason didn't know he was looking for all along?

The chemistry between them burned hot and bright, but it wasn't about sex, or at least not only about sex. It wasn't. Whatever Jason had said originally, whatever they had both agreed to, things had changed, and not just on Abe's side. He was sure about that even though they hadn't talked about it. He was sure.

It's official, my M/M erotic romance cherry has been popped and I couldn't be more blissful with the results. Having been my first venture into this genre, I was slightly nervous, I didn't know exactly what to expect, but Cardeno C. took real good care of me with some fantastic characters, a sweet story with lots of heart, family at it's core, surprisingly sexy-as-hell steam which was so much hotter than I expected, hilarious banter, and just a beautiful love story. While Abe appealed to my feminine side with his sweetness, his adorable shyness, and his caring nature ~ Jason appealed to my dirty side rather nicely. These two were just perfect together, they balanced the other out and just completed each other. It was kinda funny that, because it was two dudes, there was an obvious lack of unnecessary drama, but jealousy still reared it's head on occasion. There really was just so much I loved about this book and my only complaint would be that it's over. Now that's my innocence for this genre is gone, I am not so scared anymore and will happily place Cardeno C. on my One-Click Addiction List for my next steamy M/M read ;)

“How about we go with this? You want to be with me. I want to be with you. Neither of us wants to be with anybody else. So unless we tell each other it's over, we stick with that.”
“Did you just ask me to be in a monogamous, committed relationship with you?”
“Quit flucking with me. It's mean. I all but had an anxiety attack earlier.”

Happy Reading xo Jenn @ BookwormBetties
