Review

''Danger is ratcheting up and creeping closer to home in…Kaye's edgy and thrilling Hard Ink series. As each book reveals more of the truth behind the former Special Forces team's botched mission, the stories also explore the complicated relationships between team members and the women entering their lives. If you're looking for danger, gritty action, and sizzling passion, then Kaye has just the book and series for you. '' --RT Book Reviews, praise for the series

''Intriguing tattoo parlor and military background will appeal to fans of Suzanne Brockmann and Lindsay McKenna.'' --Publishers Weekly, praise for the author

''Kaye's depiction of sexual tension and her sex scenes are masterful, and this will appeal to fans of Maya Banks' KGI and Julie Ann Walker's Black Knight series.'' --Booklist, praise for the author

Product Description

Hard Ink Tattoo owner Jeremy Rixey has taken on his brother's stateside fight against the forces that nearly killed Nick and his Special Forces team a year before. Now, Jeremy's whole world has been turned upside down--not the least of which by a brilliant, quiet blond man who tempts Jeremy to settle down for the first time ever.

Recent kidnapping victim Charlie Merritt has always been better with computers than people, so when he's drawn into the SF team's investigation of his army colonel father's corruption, he's surprised to find acceptance and friendship--especially since his father never accepted who Charlie was. Even more surprising is the heated tension Charlie feels with sexy, tattooed Jeremy, Charlie's opposite in almost every way.

With tragedy and chaos all around them, temptation flashes hot, and Jeremy and Charlie can't help but wonder why they're trying so hard to be good...

Well, I loved this book so much!!!! I have loved this whole series from the start and when I heard Charlie and Jeremy were getting their story I was so excited and so impressed with LK. I know this can be a hot button topic and very few authors would risk putting a MM story in the middle of an otherwise MF series. I admire LK so much for taking that leap, and what a payoff!!!

This book was hot (of course), but even more it was emotional. She took playboy/just for fun Jeremy and shy/quiet Charlie through two very different emotional journeys in this novella. Jeremy's journey was a bit more simple, from just-for-fun to holy-crap-I-feel-something. Charlie's journey though was really what made this book stand out. LK took a chance and wrote a gay man who was afraid to be who he was because of the hate he had experienced from loved ones in the past. I don't know how she managed to put herself in that position, but she did a WONDERFUL job. You really feel for Charlie and empathize with his struggle.

In the end, these two have become my favourite couple (I didn't think anyone could beat my Marz) and Charlie has risen above to become my absolute favourite character (outside of Cy of course ;) ). Another A+ effort from my favourite author <3 Can't wait for Kat and Beckett!

I had been waiting for HARD TO BE GOOD forever, it seems, and it would have been worth waiting even longer: it is amazing, astonishing, fantastic, absolutely terrific!
Jeremy Rixey has always been a favourite of mine, and what joy to see that HARD TO BE GOOD is even better than I ever would have imagined! I love Charlie almost as much as Jeremy and that is saying a lot!

HARD TO BE GOOD is a fabulous love story, super sexy, and Charlie is another fabulous character in this wonderful series. There is such tenderness, respect and love between Jeremy and Charlie that the reader feels the power of their connection. It is a thing of beauty to see how Jeremy is mindful of Charlie’s inexperience at social interaction and shyness. I cannot rave enough about this brilliant novella! And Eileen gets a new “friend” as well, and this is priceless. If you have even been considering getting HARD TO BE GOOD, do not hesitate for a moment longer! HARD TO BEE GOOD is not to be missed at any cost!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Laura Kaye, but you are not rid of us fans yet: HARD TO BE GOOD is so good, that now I want more of Jeremy and Charlie! What a fabulous couple, what a remarkable book!

: 4.5 stars-

NOTE: HARD TO BE GOOD is a M/M storyline with adult situations and some sexually graphic M/M text.

HARD TO BE GOOD is the latest installment in Laura Kaye’s adult, contemporary HARD INK series focusing on an elite group of ex special forces soldiers trying to prove their innocence in an Afghanistan mission that went horribly wrong. Kicked out of the Army with a dishonorable discharge, the Special Forces Team begins an investigation of their own. This is Jeremy Rixey (tattoo artist, owner of Hard Ink Tattoo and SF leader Nick Rixey’s brother) and Charlie Merritt’s (Becca’s brother/the Colonel’s son) storyline. HARD TO BE GOOD is part of an ongoing series, where each of the storylines are interconnected therefore I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion, backstory and continuous world building. The timeline events span less than three weeks over the series.

HARD TO BE GOOD picks up immediately after the events of book three-HARD TO COME BY-following the attack and explosion at Hard Ink Tattoo. From the local mob, former special forces soldiers turned rogue, and an unknown enemy, the SF gang at Hard Ink are targeted. Someone wants something, and they believe that Nick and his fellow Special Forces team are either protecting or know of the whereabouts of what it is they seek.

Charlie Merritt is Becca’s brother- a computer genius and a victim of a brutal abduction that saw Charlie loss a part of his hand in the introductory storyline. Enter Jeremy Rixey, Nick’s brother and owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, and the man who calls to Charlie’s heart. As the gang tries to set up surveillance in the hopes of discovering the people behind the attacks, Jeremy and Charlie take their friendship to the next level.
