Editorial Reviews
Captivating, entertaining, and downright funny, this book will keep you reading until the satisfying ending. Unique characters capture your heart and have you rooting for them from the beginning. Gabby St. Claire is truly a breath of fresh air. (Susan Sleeman The Christian Suspense Zone)

Christy Barritt created one lovable and unique character. Readers will fall in love with Gabby from page one with her laugh out loud scenes and sarcastic humor. This mystery was fun to read as well as to solve. Up until the very end, I wasn't too sure who the real suspect was in the book. I'm not sure if Gabby St. Claire will morph into a book series, but I'm sure readers will want to meet her again at future crime cleaning scenes. (Tyora Moody Faithwebbin)

If you like murder mysteries and suspense with a chick-lit feel, you'll want to read this one! (Michelle Sutton michellesutton.net)

"The next time you're tempted to watch CSI reruns, read this book instead! Spunky, sassy Gabby St. Claire sparkles in this new series. She'll keep you turning the pages." (Siri Mitchell, bestselling author)

"In this witty novel, chick lit meets mystery in the show-tune singing Gabby, creating a fun whodunit where you just don't know who killed the woman or which guy you like for the heroine. There's the changeable Detective Parker or the sweet guy-next-door-with-a-secret Riley for Gabby, and who but the would-be Senator husband would want the murder victim dead? Hazardous Duty will take you on a ride through twists, turns, quirks, acorn brownies, and spiritual questions that keep Gabby guessing. She's a character you're guaranteed to love, and the plot is entertaining and fast paced." (Roseanna White Christian Review of Books)

The story, the writing, and the character were all good. However it's completely unbelievable that a character that purports to love science and be somewhat educated would state outright that she doesn't believe in evolution. Even a Good Christian scientist. That just broke it for me. Otherwise I would have given it another star.

This is a new series for me and I enjoyed the first book enough to read more of them. Loved the character Gabby St. Clare, her determination, fierce defense of truth, loyalty to friends and family whether or not they deserve it, and her fascinating line of work. The introduction of two interesting men in her life cranks up the tension, and although the first story is nicely tied up at the end of the book, the longer saga has only begun.

Recommended for mystery lovers who appreciate a unique perspective on life with a spiritual side, and just enough humor and romance to give it sparkle. The fact that this book is part of a series gives opportunity to get to know the characters more fully in future books.

Gabby St. quit school one semester shy of becoming a forensic scientist when she dropped out in order to support her father after the death of her mother. She decided to start her own business as a crime scene cleaner so that she could work in a job that was related to her field of interest. While on a call, she discovered evidence that could clear the accused of murder and point the finger at a very public figure. Unfortunately, Officer Parker won’t listen to her. That same day someone tried to burn her alive at the scene of the murder and frame her assistant, so Gabby decided to take matters into her own hands and work the case herself.

Hazardous Duty is a mystery/suspense novel with romantic and humorous elements. This is also classified as a Christian novel. I found the Christian element to be fairly understated. The main character is not a Christian and in fact is turned off of Christianity. I think that non-Christians will not find the book too preachy.

Gabby is very strong-willed and opinionated. Her opinions and strong will often put her in danger as she does the opposite of what others advise her to do or what common sense suggests.

We are not shown much of the science that Gabby loves so much as a forensic scientist, but I believe that is because this novel is intended to be a cozy mystery and a light read. I did find it curious that several of the comments that Officer Parker made to Gabby sounded very threatening, and I think she probably could have charged him with threatening her, yet she still finds herself attracted to him. What does that say about her judgement?

I enjoyed the main characters in Hazardous Duty and happy to know that this is only the first of several in this series.

Gabby is an engaging character with an unusual career and a complicated life. In spite of trouble finding her, she doesn't always make those decisions that get her into the soup. A fast, engaging read with promise of more to come in the following books of the series.

Quick read but too many coincidental occurrences to be at all believable in my opinion and too much is left unexplained.
