Jonny Bowden's The Healthiest Meals on Earth contains recipes for more than sixty dishes and drinks that use nutritious and healthy cooking methods. Forty of these dishes will combine to create ten different "poly-meals", specially crafted meals that contain key nutrients found to promote long-term health. They include Sweet and Thai Spicy Shrimp and Fruits, Persian Chicken with Autumnal Accompaniments, and the "iron booster" of Tender Calf's Liver and Sweet Beets. A "Healthiest Holiday Meal" features Citrus Stuffed Turkey, Zippy Fruit Salsa, and Sweet Potato Pie. The poly-meals are designed to be eaten three-to-five times a week.
Another ten recipes are not part of the poly-meal structure; instead they are one-pot meals that include Slow-Cooker Chicken Curry, Miso Bean Soup, and Venison Stew. A chapter on drinks will include nutritious smoothies, so-called "green drinks", and others. Jonny will provide healthy cooking tips throughout the book, as well as an analysis of the foods in each recipe. Side dishes, such as Cold Strawberry Soup and Veggie Slaw with Flax Oil, and desserts, such as Raw Chocolate Fondue, are also featured.
This book pairs well with Bowden's successful 150 Healthiest Foods, and can even be used as a companion cookbook.

Product description
Review
Verdict: Unfortunately, the recipes do not include nutritional values, but most people will find the book an interesting and different approach to healthy cooking. Recommended for most culinary collections.
Background: Nutritionist Bowden (The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth) is again exploring healthy nutrition. The emphasis is on polymeal options, which are composed of ingredients that enhance heart and blood vessel health. Readers will find the work organized in an unusual way, with the first ten chapters arranged around a polymeal menu, usually made up of four dishes. Each chapter is lavishly illustrated with additional information about key ingredients and includes a pantry list as well as suggestions for menu substitutions based on recipes from other chapters. A typical menu includes Calf Liver with Green Onions, Sweet Beets and Greens, Veggie Slaw with Flax Oil, and Almond Butter Apricot Cookies. Bowden focuses on developing a high-nutrition polymeal that minimizes the use of sugar and simple starches (such as white flour or white potatoes). Other chapters focus on one pot polymeals (such as Slow Cooker Chicken Curry or Quinoa Risotto with White Beans, Arugula and Parmesan) and beverages. - Library Journal Xpress Reviews

Most of the meals are low carb, but not all of them and it would have been very useful to include a nutrition section, especially for people like me who have to follow a low carb, low GI diet. It is a bit of an inconvenience to always have to calculate carb content myself, but this is my only complaint. Other than that, I love the book and use it often.
Having made a huge change in my own personal diet 3 years ago(after reading Ultrametabolism), after reading Jonny's 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth helped me tweak my diet that much more. But the problem at home has been that my wife doesn't know what to cook for me.
This book has recipies for incredible meals based on a solid foundation of real nutrition. Eating with your health goals in mind, you get meals power packed with healthful nutrients that are very appealing visually and pleasing to the olfactory senses (smell).
It's not just a recipe book, but an explanation of the foods and spices that make up the meal.
There are some wonderful charts in the book that cross reference various foods with their healthful benefits.
He does the same for healthful oils.
If you are big into nutrition, this and his "150 healthiest foods" book are essential for your library.
Whether you are eating because you want to just be healthy or you have a specific condition you want to target with the proper nutrition, this book is great.
The bottom line: Jonny Bowden's nutritional advice just makes sense!
Thank you again Dr. Bowden for another great masterpiece!!!
I am good at following plans and big into health - I am not on any special diet except everything in moderation and definitely full fat (again in moderation)- I have my own template of healthy habits to address high cholesterol (no pill for me thanks) and I am healthy weight. Hence I thought this book would be more insightful and something new I could incorporate but it has not been.
What I really love, though, is that he explains exactly what is so great about the food in a very approachable way while still going into details and specifics. It's like having your own nutritionist on hand.
Only down side: I do wish there were more recipes for breakfast and lunch. Everything in here is more geared toward dinner.
