Product Description

Twelve years ago, Jolene’s adoptive mother died. Twelve years ago, a man showed up at Jolene’s door and promised to take care of her. Twelve years ago, Jolene was happy. Then it all changed…

Jolene Bergio has spent the last twelve years of her life asking one question… Why? Why was she left in the custody of a man who would sell her each and every night to the highest bidder? After a few years, she shut off, giving up hope that anyone would ever find her. Until her luck changed one night and she escaped.

Twelve years later, she finally feels something she hasn’t felt in a long time… Free.

Scared that her past will find her unexpectedly, she hides away in a rented beach house, trying to distance herself from everyone… Until Dr. Cameron Bowen enters her world and slowly tears down the walls that she has built up over the past twelve years of her captivity. Jolene begins to learn to love again.

And trust again.

But when a man from Jolene’s past emerges, will she be able to keep her identity hidden? When lies are told and hearts are broken, will the truth surface in time to bring Jolene back from the shadows that threaten to expose who she really is?

About the Author

T.K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is the USA Today Best Selling author of the Beautiful Mess series. Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). She always had a knack for writing, but mostly in the legal field. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to try her hand at creative writing and is now addicted to creating different characters and new and unique story lines in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre. When she’s not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

severely disappointed in this book, I loved Cam in the beautiful mess series, and I loved how much he loved Olivia. If nothing else, they had a beautiful friendship (even though we knew Cam was deeply in love with her) In heart of Light, he took 2 years to even deal with the fact that he lost Olivia (so say his 2 best friends) he goes into a rage when he first lays eyes on Jolene (because she looks just like Olivia) then as the book goes on, he starts to say that she looks NOTHING like Olivia and how what he felt for Olivia wasn't even real, he was just in love with the fact of being "in love"with her. YET IT TOOK HIM 2 YRS TO EVEN BECOME CLOSE TO BEING THE PERSON HE WAS??????? WTH??? I feel like everything I felt for Cam, how I wanted his happy ending, how he loved Olivia, was all a big fat lie and a complete waste of my time for reading about it in the beautiful mess series. Don't even get me started on the s*** he says to Jolene, it's NO DIFFERENT than the vulgar mouths of those scum clients she has to deal with!!!! I really, really turned from Cameron and unfortunately, I will NOT be buying or reading "Heart of Marley"

Did I read the same story?

This story was all over the place. Cam was recovering from a broken heart, that we got to see in The Beautiful Mess series (another disaster).... a yoyo would have been more interesting.

The heroine was 28 years old, when she finally escaped from a vicious VICIOUS sadistic man. I allotted some leeway for messed up emotions, confusion and mood swings... BUT, if I had been abused for 10 years... TEN years, that's 12 months times 10... there is NO way in hell I would be jumping in to bed with anyone within weeks of escaping the abuse and multiple savage rapes.

Cam, the 38 year old surfer/psychiatrist, is the owner of the beach house that the heroine rents from him. They had a disastrous immature first time meeting. A psychiatrist would have known better than to get romantically involved with someone that was CLEARLY suffering from something very traumatic. You don't jump in to dating and sleeping with her. Very unprofessional and a turn off. It was around this point that I nearly gave up reading, but I was curious as to how much worse this could get..... and oh boy, it was embarrassing how bad this got. There were no warm and fuzzy feelings. It was pure annoyance. I scoffed and rolled my eyes for most of this story.

Then to add insult to our intelligence, one of her sadistic abusers just happened to see Jolene escape and follows her, stalks her then proceeds to demand sadistic sexual submission or he will turn her in to her previous captor. This would have been a PERFECT time for the heroine to confide in the psychiatrist and her love interest... but nooooo, she LIES. She is beaten and raped repeatedly and says nothing!!!!!!!!! COME ON... this story is pure frustration.

I don't recommend this.

“Yes, I need it. To be free from the darkness. Please, Cam. Be my light.”

If that isn’t a quote that breaks your heart, then don’t fret, Heart of Light has a million more to choose from that are sure to twist you and your soul up into tiny little pieces. This book was a turbulent wave of emotion for me. I cried, I laughed, I had my heart broken more times than I can count, but most of all - I felt hope. Hope for the beauty of love, for the power of a strong spirit, and hope that good really can triumph over evil. T.K. Leigh touches on some very real, horrific crimes that unfortunately, a lot of females fall victim to. After finishing this story, I found myself completely in awe of her and her writing ability. The way that she managed to portray the seriousness of the topics without glorifying or romanticizing them in any way, well to me, that truly is a gift. While its no secret that I am a fan of darker reads, the truth of the matter is, the subjects in this book are issues that are often ignored everyday in the real world.

Jolene is a survivor. Held captive and forced into prostitution for 10 years, she has become an expert at survival, protecting herself the only way she can. Retreating into the darkness and closing herself off from the heinous acts she’s forced to commit. Freedom comes in the form of a caring couple that work tirelessly on a plan to smuggle her out of her prison. To everyone’s shock, the plan works, and soon she is on the run. Jolene was the girl more heavily guarded than any other, considered the “princess” to the boss, a fact that haunts her days and nights with the most inconceivable nightmares. Desperate to put as many miles between herself and the Hell she lived through as possible, she runs until she can go no farther.

T.K. Leigh is one of those authors who grip you right from the first page through the entire book and tackles subjects many stay away from, yet she does it in such a way that you learn so much about the pain that people go through and you want to help.

Jolene Bergio has been help captive for 10 years and one day she finally escapes yet she knows she will never be safe or free from her past. Then she meets a man that she is willing to trust and hopefully find the light.

Dr.Cameron Bowen specializes in working with women who have been victimized and helping them get through it and when he meets Jolene he recognizes the pain in her. But she isn't his patient and he wants to help her get through everything as a friend, and hopefully more.

Yet when Jolene's past catches up to them will he be able to save her or will she be made an example of?

This is such an amazing book that tears at your heart knowing that these things happen around us still and need to be stopped. I couldn't put the book down!
