HASH(0x9e45d90c) out of 5 stars The Bookschlepper Recommends Feb. 4 2013
By Jean Sue Libkind - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Royal Watchers should be advised that this gorgeous book emphasizes the Queen's reign up to the Silver Jubilee (1977); more recent color plates and a brief synopsis of the last 35 years has been appended. It is still a must-have for any collection. Taschen always does a fine printing job although I am terribly bothered by the designer's decision to use a silver ink and small type, almost unreadable on the glossy stock. I've been following the Queen since the Coronation so many of these photos are quite familiar but there were several that were new to me. Still, a large reproduction of some of Beaton's finest is always welcome. Other notable photographers are also included along with some listed as "anonymous"--from the press pool.

There is nothing to dislike about this magnificent book. It is a MUST in anyone's library: British or otherwise. I highly recommend this book to be enjoyed for many years and to be passed down to one's heirs.

HASH(0x9e2705c4) out of 5 stars This Book was Wonderful!!! June 6 2013

I had read other reviews about this big, heavy book. However, I am a big Queen Elizabeth II fan and have been since I was 9 and did a book report on her for a school project. I loved the pictures, took this book and laid across my bed to look at it so I could open it all the way up and not have to hold it. It is a coffee table size book but has interesting facts in it. It was expensive but I think it was well worth it if you are a Elizabeth collector. The book was well packaged when received and has a a sleeve to keep the book in so that it does not get damaged. I was impressed.

HASH(0x9e3173cc) out of 5 stars Bought as a gift March 20 2013

I bought this for my Mother for her birthday. The book is beautiful. The pictures are absolutely amazing. The book is very large and weighs a lot. It is too heavy for my Mother to lift. But other than that, anyone who has grown up watching the Queen will absolutely love this book. It was very expensive, but worth it.

HASH(0x9e211fcc) out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment Dec 29 2012
By R.S. - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
And huge is the operative word. The book weighs 10.5 pounds and measures 16" by 12", really the size of 2 coffee table books. It's uncomfortable to hold closed and even more so when opened precariously on one's lap. It is so huge that It comes with it's own briefcase box with handle. I'm sure it won't fit on most bookshelves. More importantly, the subject and placement of the photographs is the biggest (already discussed how big the book is) disappointment. Most of the photos selected are boring and less than representative of her majesty's reign. Some of the photos are actually blurred images. Some of the double-page photos are placed so that the Queen or the subject of the photo is in the crease of the book, leaving the actual pages showing only photo-filler. Given a choice again, I would not have purchased this book.
