The Lost Hero introduced some fun new characters, namely Jason, a Roman transplant to Camp Half-Blood who can't remember anything from his past; Piper, whose father has been kidnapped and to save him, she must betray her friends; and Leo who has a way with tools and fire (Leo was by far my son's favourite because of his quirky humour).

The mystery surrounding Jason was really fun. I love the Roman elements and having them play off of the Greek elements of the book. There were also some great twists and turns that kept me and my son on the edge of our seats. The book is also full of action - fighting, adventures, dragons, evil monsters, and inuendo of even worse things to come...

The story is told from all three characters points of view. Each character took turns for 2 chapters at a time. This was good because it really allowed us to get into the heads of the different characters. I also think this widens the appeal to both boys and girls because there are more chances of relating to a character.

If you've read the Percy Jackson series, you will enjoy revisiting Camp Half-Blood and some of the characters from that series. I love the set up of how the new characters will eventually intermingle with the original characters, but at the same time, this is a whole new adventure.

I've owned this book for a while and encourage anyone who loves the Greek myths as much as I do to buy this wonderful book!!!
It's not part of the Percy Jackson series, but it's just as good! This book will make you fall in love with these new characters! But don't worry, the characters from the previous series are still there to help along the way!!
I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did!
What a great read!!

Jason has no idea who he is or how he ended up on a bus going on a field trip for The Wilderness School. The two people he wakes up next to, Pyper and Leo, claim to be his friends, but he has no recollection of who they are.

When the group he's with arrives at the Grand Canyon, strange things start happening. Jason has a run-in with Wind Spirits, but has no idea how he knows that's what they are. During their life-and-death battle with the spirits, Coach Hedge, the teacher in charge who turns out to have goat legs, gets taken away by the creatures. Shortly after, a girl and a group of followers show up on winged beasts and whisk them off to a place called Camp Half-Blood.

The three soon discover that they are demigods. Jason is the son of Zeus (but he keeps calling him Jupiter, Zeus' Roman name), Pyper is the daughter of Aphrodite, and Leo is the son of Hephaestus. Still coming into their powers, the three are whisked away on a quest. Their mission: find the missing Hera before the Giant King (the Greek gods' greatest enemy) raises a force so evil that mankind will be utterly doomed.

The trio only has three days and has only one clue to go on: find Boreas, the god of the North Wind. Will Pyper, Leo, and Jason be able to save the world? Will Jason ever figure out who he really is? Who really took his memories? Why does he keep calling gods by their Roman names?

A great new addition to the PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS series. The characters are well-developed, the plot is thick and mysterious, and the action is intense. Although the story will make more sense once the reader has read the first five books in the original series, those who are fans of Rick Riordan, mythology, fantasy, and adventure will all enjoy reading THE LOST HERO.

Rick Riordan revisits the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians in "The Lost Hero," first in a new YA series set in that milieu. In it, Jason wakes up to find himself on a school trip bus, complete with best friend Leo and girlfriend Piper - and with no idea at all how he got there, who he is or who they are. Very quickly, the bus is attacked by hostile storm spirits and the schooltrip chaperone, Coach Hedge, is captured by them while trying to save the kids, who themselves are extricated on pegasi by Annabeth, Athena's daughter, and taken to Camp Half-Blood. There, they learn whose children they are, and the quest on which they must embark and complete before the Winter Solstice, in four days' time. But Piper has a secret that could ruin everything, and Jason just doesn't quite seem to fit into the Half-Blood setting....Although I wasn't quite as blown away with this book as I was with the first Percy Jackson novel, I still enjoy Riordan's mix of adventure, breakneck pacing, ancient mythology, teen angst and, above all, humour. Dark in parts, as any retelling of mythology must be, this is still a very funny book and his new cast of characters interact well with each other and with some of our old friends who make a return here. I can see where this is leading, but I don't know how many books it will take to get there and I fully intend to continue enjoying the ride as each new story comes out. Recommended!
