Good Hamster Mix

While doing my research on Syrian hamster diets, this bag of food was recommended so I decided to try it out. It has a good mix of seeds in it, as well as dried vegetables, and my hamster seems to be enjoying most of it. I'm quite upset at how unavailable this food is in Canada considering how close it is to the States. Not to mention I've seen the Higgins brand at PetSmart before but only for birds. It's also quite crazy how expensive this small bag of food is when it's $5.99 in the American PetSmart stores. Nonetheless, my hamster enjoys it and he isn't very food motivated, so the 2.5 lb bag should last some time. If he was a bigger eater, I don't think I'd be able to buy this bag as often due to the high price.

I am not impressed, I bought this because the picture shows it has lots of big bits and that's the stuff my hamster and gerbil love so that's the only reason I spent 20 for this and when I received it I was disappointed it's mostly small seeds that they will not eat, such a waist of money and will never order it again. Thanks for the ripoff

Best hamster food you can buy imo. It’s definitely cheaper to buy in store, but if you can’t it’s still worth the $30. It’s also slightly smaller than I thought, but still an ok size. Those are the only reasons I’m giving it 4 stars and not 5. (I like to add extra flax seeds, oat flakes, wheat grass seeds, and brewers yeast when I feed it to my hamster as well, and don’t forget they need occasional veggies.)

My little hammy loves this stuff, it all gets finished, unlike some other blends I’ve purchased. Lost a star for the price, it’s more than three times what I usually pay for but the quality is fantastic. (For reference, I have a year old dwarf hamster eating this mix; she prefers it over the oxbow essentials, generic Walmart brand and the Hagen mix she’s previously tried.)

My hamster is addicted to this. Loves it I won’t feed her anything else. With shipping and everything it came to about $40 which is definitely expensive, considering I bought 3 bags for the same price in store in the United States. Unfortunately it’s not available in store near me so I had to opt for online.

The price is absolutely ridiculous. But the gerbils LOVE it. I got them as rescues and have tried every single kind locally and they still wouldn’t eat much, very picky. So they started eating this one right away, and I’m hoping they’ll gain some weight now.

What I can say is that my hamster was not impressed, he eats just as he ate from other brands, but he still prefers fresh vegetables and protein. However, I think this food mix is healthier and has a better seed variety when compared to other brands.

I have the pickiest hamster I have ever encountered - she doesn't eat pellets! Just won't do it. Like she's hamster royalty or something. This is one of the only hamster foods I've found with minimal amounts of pellets, which means I'm not throwing away half of the bag because she is too good for pellets. If your hamster is as neurotic and picky as mine, save yourself the trouble and just buy this food.

I know people complain about how there are too many seeds or fruit pieces, but I have been feeding her the same thing for 2 years and she is doing just fine.

This is a great quality seed mix to use in combination with Mazuri rat and mouse lab blocks or a similar high-quality, high-protein lab block. I suggest seeing how long it takes your hamster to eat 2-3 tablespoons of this mix (don't refill before they've eaten all of it as this can encourage them to only eat their favorite things out of it) and it's a great food to use for forage-feeding. As with any seed mix, it needs to be supplemented with a high-protein lab block in order for them to get a balanced and nutritious diet.

Compared to Kaytee Fiesta, he would come back to his bowl frequently throughout the day (he was very thin when I got him), highly recommended!
Add some more protein to this food to get a balanced diet.

This bag has a lot of millet "filler" that my gerbils won't eat, at least half the bag. Leads to a ton of waste. It also has milo another filler that doesn't get eaten. They add this to add weight to charge more for grain animals won't eat, this is often done with bird food, too. I won't buy again.
