Product Description

Ashlyn Murphy was not living the dream. Twenty-seven years old, college educated, up to her eyeballs in debt and yet she’d been relegated to pouring beers at a local bar. She desperately needed an out and was willing to do anything to get back into the corporate world. Well, almost anything. Dan Evans, Rock Star was NOT one of those things. In fact she despised him. Apparently he didn’t get the memo.

Dan Evans, bass player of international rock band Power Station had it all. He was rich, travelled the world, played to millions of adoring fans and had no shortage of beautiful women willing to share his bed. He didn’t need a moody redheaded knockout with a superiority complex complicating his life. Or did he?

When two people who couldn’t be more opposite cross paths, it’s bound to be explosive; sometimes all you can do is sit back and enjoy the show.

Book one of the Power Station series.

Review of High Strung (Power Station #1) by T. Gephart

Review done for Hooked on Books

4 out of 5 stars

High Strung is book 1 in the Power Station series. This story follows the bass player Dan Evans.

Dan is one of the gorgeous rockers of the band Power Station. He is loving his single life. That is until he meets Ashlyn Murphy.

Ashlyn Murphy is an independent, well-educated, beautiful woman. She is working in a dive bar until she can find another job using her degree. She has her life planned out: work really hard, make good money, marry someone who also makes good money.

Dan does not qualify on Ashlyn’s list because he doesn’t have a normal job. He is super hot but not reliable, or so Ashlyn believes at first.

Ashlyn decides to take a chance and see where things go with Dan. Little did she know that he is everything that she needs and wants.

Ashlyn was a little flaky at first. Her ideals were not realistic and she was quick to judge other people.

I really liked Dan. He was hot and quite thoughtful. He really changed for Ashlyn.

I felt this book was lacking a bit on the “rockstar” story angle. I wish there was more in the story about the band and what it is like from their angle to be on stage and things like that. I would have liked to see what happens when Dan has to go on tour. But maybe that will be in book 2.

Overall I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it.

This was my first book by T Gephart and it wont be my last, OMG. I LOVED this book. This is may be the story of Ash and Dan but you will be so happy to meet all the cast of characters that surround them. So many many relatable moments: the conversations between Dan and his bandmates, the english and the declaration of independence perspective, the phone calls with Ash, Megs and Troy Harris, the scene with the purse, I thought my husband wrote it. The sex scenes are hot. The characters are so well developed, the dialogue is beyond amazing, so funny, there are laugh out loud moments, some sad moments and introspective moments that will leave you very very satisfied. Not only did I not skip any part of this book I re read some passages a few times. A great read.

Well F**k.

Yep.

That’s it.

Nothing else to say.

EXCEPT

HOW the hell did I not read T Gephart before?????

I’m lying of course because, as usual, I have something to say! But I am scratching my head this morning wondering how on earth I missed her. I started this yesterday but stayed up until the early hours of this morning to finish it. One hit, I could not put it down. I’ve been a little bored and jaded lately when reading rockers, bikers and billionaires because the whole bloody market is so over saturated, quantity of choice but not always so much quality so to come across not only a book that was such addictive reading when I had no expectations at all was a surprise, for it to be a rocker book just shows its calibre, this is going to be a favourite without doubt. The book and the author.

So what’s it all about?

And what a show it is.

Ashlyn is just bloody fabulous. Sassy smartass who takes no sh*t off Dan from their very first meeting. She’s the type of female lead I love reading but don’t always find. A clever girl with a life plan mapped out that includes a career on Wall Street but not a rude crude rock god with a huge ego (amongst other things!). Ash is a redhead with the temperament to match and I adored her.

Dan, well where the f**k do you start with Dan? Actually probably with just that, a f**k, he’s a total unapologetic manwh*re who loves life, women and music not necessarily in that order! He lives his life his way, full on and enjoying every second of it. His dirty mouth is a joy to behold, whether he’s being a suggestive git with the innuendos and dirty talk or whether he’s in bed and using it for other things!
From the moment they meet the pull and push between them is fascinating, funny and frustrating (from Dan`s point of view anyway!).

“I hate you.”

I leaned in and whispered, “No, you don’t. You’re just mad ‘cause I make your panties wet.”

“You disgust me!” She pushed against my chest.

“And yet, you still want to sleep with me, don’t you?”

“What? No. Are you insane? I don’t want to sleep with you. Not every woman wants to sleep with you.”

“Maybe that’s true, but you do.”

“You…you…ugh!” She opened her mouth and shut it, wordless.

“It’s okay, sweetheart, don’t fight it. I promise it will be good for you.”

Dan goes after whatever he wants whenever he wants it but Ashlyn is a far more controlled person who has worked too hard to go off plan and lose focus for a fling with a rock star, yet the more she sees and spends time with him the harder it is to keep sight of that plan.

It was the ultimate tease pic: no face, just sculptured, masculine skin. It was raw and unfiltered, just like him.

Life isn’t about the perfect plan. It’s about the perfect storm that engulfs you when you’re busy living it.

When these two people and worlds collide it makes for a story that I devoured because the author spins it that well, it made a tired genre come alive for me again in a way only Olivia Cunning or Samantha Towle usually do. If you are an avid reader then you know the feeling, "I’ll just finish that next chapter, I must go to bed but maybe just a little more, oh f**k it I need to finish and know what happens, who needs sleep". This is a little gem that I enjoyed, gorged on in one hit. ........

And having checked on Amazon I discover this is a spin off from her other books, epic fail on my part.

And well done to #RARE14 Edinburgh because that book signing introduced me to the names T Gephart and Lesley Jones and both are bloody amazing.

4.5 Entertaining, Steamy Stars!

The Review:
This is a new author to me and this book was suggested by a friend. She told me it was funny and I’d definitely be impressed by the story. She wasn’t wrong. In fact, after reading the first chapter, I knew I had a rare gem in my hands. I was hooked! I absolutely couldn't put it down. I laughed, I tensed up, I got the swoon-worthy butterflies and when I was done, I had the biggest grin on my face. I loved the characters. I loved the story. And I loved the originality!

Story/Characters...
A broker by right but a bar waitress for now, Ashlyn Murphy lost her dream job when the market crashed and has been waiting on the drunken populace for way too long. As the bills stack higher and her dream seems to be drifting further away, she patiently awaits her second chance to prove to herself that all that college education wasn’t for nothing. Gearing up for an interview to be an assistant to the rock band, Power Station, certainly isn’t her calling but its a step in the right direction... if only she can pass the interview. Little does she know, that day will change everything for her strained and simple life.

Dan Evans, manwhore and partier extraordinaire, is the base player for his band whose popularity has skyrocketed, leaving Dan more than capable to bed any woman he wants... except the one who instantly captured his attention with her biting tongue and unimpressed attitude. Dan’s never met a woman he couldn’t woo out of her overpriced panties but Ashlyn isn’t interested and that only makes Dan determined to win her over. After a very heated introduction, Dan can’t get Ashlyn out of his mind and when he runs into her again unexpectedly, he vows to break past her walls and see what’s hiding behind that sassy personality.

Right from the start, these two light up the pages with their chemistry and even when they are fighting, it’s sexy and entertaining. I was pulled into the story with fun banter, lively dialogue, smart characters and a romantic story that set me alight!

Ashlyn is sarcastic, witty and funny. She’s not impressed with Dan’s status or his fame which only fuels Dan’s interest. Dan was not innocent in the least but his straightforward, dense personality endeared him to me as he was almost innocent in his thinking. These two struggle through their romance with a light bit of angsts, a delightful story that sucked me in from the beginning and kept me smitten until the very end.

The Wrap Up:
Written in duel POV’s, we get to see the battle of two strong-willed people come together to create a smoldering romance with enough emotion, magic and energy from both sides of the story to entice you to read through the night. I enjoyed Dan’s playful character and his charm was sweet and vulnerable. Ashlyn was a fantastic, no-nonsense character who drilled her way into my heart. And the writing! I can’t end this review without commenting on how fantastically entertaining the writing was. Humorous, intelligent, inventive and absorbing, this author wow'd me. I can’t wait to read more Power Station and I’m certainly going to pick up her other works.

NOTE: I was gifted this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

HASH(0x9d872b34) out of 5 stars Pretty good. Enjoyable, quick read. Nov. 6 2014

3.5 Stars

I mostly liked this book.
Dan was a good character even if I didn't like him that much in the beginning. He was pretty crude--which I don't mind--but, at times, his sexual innuendos and humor were kind of relentless. Later in the story, when he also showed a calmer and more serious side, it gave more depth to his character and made him more believable.
He was definitely an acquired taste but one I really liked in the end.

Ashlyn was kind of a bitch, but she balanced out Dan's outrageousness--kind of reined him in. The only thing that bothered me was that there seemed to be no basis in her past for her fears. What motivated her to build this Future Life Path to Success? I know she was the first of her family to go to college, but her family wasn't living in poverty. She wasn't escaping abuse, she had people to fall back on who loved her. There wasn't any kind of shameful scandal she needed to atone for by living a conventional, boring life.
I just didn't get her motivation for a lot of her actions--especially when her relationship with Dan hit a crisis. It was really mostly her doing and she based it on the flimsiest of reasons. She never even said she was afraid, though that, at least, might have explained what she did.

It just didn't ring true for me and kind of messed with my enjoyment of the book. Poor plot development.

In any case, they get their HEA and there's no cliffhanger.
However, there's also no epilogue. I still have questions which I doubt will be answered in the next book as, I assume, the next book is about someone else.

I mean, what happened to Rob?
Don't they work together? Is he going to be weird or vindictive?
What will Ashlyn and Dan do when he goes on tour?

Some of us would like some further clarification, Ms. Gephart, please!!
Kind of feels like a cliffhanger even though there isn't one.

HASH(0x9d872b28) out of 5 stars Cupcakes or muffins? Oct. 10 2014
By Jo Webb - Published on Amazon.com

Having met Tina and experienced what her personality is like, I couldn't expect her writing style to be any different. Nor her characters. Dan and Ashlyn tick every box for a fantastic read.

Ashlyn is a woman with a plan. I like plans. I live for lists and organisation so I related to her and felt her despair at her plans hitting one of those nasty little "life" speed bumps.

Dan is one hell of a cheeky chappy. One liners, sexual innuendos, hilarious ideals and all around good hearted guy underneath some egotistical bravado. Fluff me, I fell. And hard.

It was easy to see that Ash had no chance of him not derailing her from all she had known of adulthood up until this point.

But it was humbling to see Dan getting knocked on his arse by this remarkable woman that he just couldn't stay away from. His attempts at making her his girl and bringing new experiences into her life, ones she had forced herself to miss out on because she was strict on herself growing up, growing away from the world she had been born into.

This book had it all. The ego, the doubt, the push-and-pull between them, the sexual tension a blind man could see. Everything. Oh, and the angst. The angst was there is spades.

The emotions I felt throughout the story was of the highest highs but of the lowest lows. Dan and Ashlyn's tale will be a whirlwind, a rollercoaster and you want more. You crave more. I cannot wait for more from the Power Station gang and am eagerly awaiting more quips and one-liners from Dan along the way!

Cupcakes rule!

HASH(0x9d7de294) out of 5 stars Holy hotness.... Nov. 2 2014

The right book coming along at the perfect time is heaven for reader like me, after picking up so many heavy books of late, I needed a change, something light and funny, with heart and High Strung was exactly that.

T. Gephart's latest work can be read as a stand alone or as a continuation of her popular Lexi series, featuring characters from the band Power Station, this book had me engrossed immediately. Ashlyn drew me in from the first page, with her quick wit and outward bravado she was sweet and sassy, she's the kind of girl you want to be friends with, and at the same time pray to god you never cross. Dan for all his crude dirty talk and sexual innuendo proved he had a heart hidden under a very well defined muscled chest.

What I adored so much about High Strung was the sense of greedy elation I felt reading it. These characters had me invested, I couldn't put it down, I found myself speeding towards the end with a desperate need to find out what would happen and simultaneously chastising myself for not taking my time to savor this world Gephart had created.

In my opinion, High Strung is T. Gephart's best work to date, she has shown a true flair for writing erotic romantic comedy, with the perfect blend of numerous laugh out loud moments coupled with enough heart to keep me invested in not only Ashlyn and Dan but with all the surrounding characters. Her ability to move seamlessly from scene to scene whilst evoking a range of emotions in the reader, has cemented her place as an author who is an automatic 1click for me.
