"There’s nothing sparkly about these vampires, and the straightforward prose is matched by the characters’ knack for plain speaking. Romantic without being soppy or sentimental, this is a palate cleanser for horror readers tired of the same old blood-suckers" (Publishers Weekly)
"Readers will be enthralled by Clark’s imaginative story and his dark, atmospheric prose style. Another winner from an always-interesting writer" (Booklist)

When a young British man named Tom falls for the strange blonde-haired young woman he finds wandering around his property --- he is instantly smitten. Once friends and family find out who he is smitten with they beg him to forget about her. Defiantly, he does the exact opposite and proposes to the odd Nicola.
Unbenownst to Tom, Nicola and her family have a secret past that involves Norse gods, ancient evil monsters that act as protectors and a history of violence. To make matterw worse, Nicola's mother warns Tom that if he weds her she will become a vampire --- like her many siblings.
Of course, Tom marries Nicola and the rest is history...
A nice Halloween season read from a true master of horror!
This is a "stand alone" novel, not necessarily a sequel or even related to his original VAMPYRRHIC (another great read). In BRIDE, protagonist Tom Westonby happens upon an alluring woman...but one who comes with a curse relating all the way back to the Vikings.
I have read a few of Clark's books and none of them disappoint. He has an imagination that takes us into basements, woods, and even into the corners of our own minds that we keep hidden after dark. I recommend HIS VAMPYRRHIC BRIDE. If you have not yet discovered Simon Clark and love horror, what are you waiting for?
