Hidden Lines Book One

Chloe can “talk” to animals…so why can she hear the thoughts of this hot, green-eyed man?

Abandoned by her mother and raised by a father who’d given up on life, Chloe doesn’t let anyone get close. Lucky for her, she can communicate with animals—telepathically. Her long hours at the animal shelter help her cope with the stress, and the animals are the only people she needs. But when a suspected dog-fighting ring comes to her attention, Chloe decides to do a little spying. And in her rush to win the dogs’ trust, she almost gets herself caught.

Until a sexy stranger intervenes, and she finds she can overhear his thoughts. She’s never been able to hear people, and this man’s about as sexy as she’s ever seen. It’s more than intellectual curiosity that drives her to discover his secret: he’s a jaguar shape-shifter, and the presence of this cat among the dogs might be a bit too much to handle. But the animal attraction is just too hot to resist, and the passion between them makes both the sparks—and the fur—fly…

To Hiss or to Kiss by Katya Armock is a different twist on the paranormal. Chloe, has the ability to talk to animals with her mind. Imagine her shock when she finds herself being able to "hear" another human.
A delightful story concentrating on the rescue of dogs from a group who were using them for dogfighting and the budding romance between a jaguar shifter (Jorge) and Chloe. The storyline kept me turning the pages long after my bedtime:)
Although Chloe has her own deep seated issues with attachment to people, and her character can be a little hot under the collar, I enjoyed the byplay between Jorge and Chloe.
I hope there is more of this story to come. I was enthralled from the first page.

HASH(0xa5b57924) out of 5 stars A fun summer read May 27 2013
By Isis Nocturne - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
To Hiss or to Kiss tells the story of our protagonist, Chloe, and how her abilities to telepathically communicate with animals gets her involved in taking down a dog fighting ring while simultaneously dealing with her attraction to a man she sees at work one day.

Chloe's used to being able to communicate with animals, but one day, while she's on the job at the animal shelter she works at, she hears a human voice in her head besides the animals she normally hears. This spooks Chloe, but leaves her interested in the man whose thoughts she's heard. At the same time, Chloe learns about a suspected dog fighting ring, which she wants to help break up. After leaving work, she goes exploring to find out more, and once again meets up with the mysterious man (Jorge) she saw while working. They end up talking, and work together to rescue the dogs while embarking on a relationship.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a pretty quick read, and I was spellbound. I loved Chloe and Jorge, and how their relationship grew. Though it seemed a little fast, the passion between them was incredible and I was really drawn in by it. I also loved the way the animals in the story communicated with Chloe. It added a lot to the book and kept my interest piqued. I felt just as worried for the animals as Chloe did, and when *redacted for spoilers* happened, I was in the same headspace as Chloe and Jorge.

One of the moments I loved most was when Jorge revealed his secret to Chloe. Though I'd guessed it from the beginning, the way that Ms. Armock wrote the scene was hilarious. I could easily see it happening as though it was on a network tv show.

My only complaint with To Hiss or to Kiss was the ending. It felt a little rushed.

I give To Hiss or to Kiss 3.5 stars. It's a fun read, and definitely great for taking to the beach this summer.

Note: I was given a copy of this book for the purpose of reviewing it. That has no effect on my review.

Note II: This review is cross-posted to Goodreads, Shelfari, and Barnes & Noble.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are very believable and easy to relate to. The plot had me rooting for Chloe and Jorge to find and help free the dogs. It pulled at my emotions and kept me reading to find out what would happen next. I hope there is more to come.

HASH(0xa5b57db0) out of 5 stars Good Read for those that like steamy sex mixed with a good story line May 22 2013
By Book Lover - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Who doesn't like a book with steamy sex, likeable characters, an adventure, and a discovery of one's own internal gift.

I liked the emotional and relational growth of the characters, especially Chloe, as the story progressed. Jorge is not an alpha male, but remains very masculine, is intellectual and great in bed. He is possibly my dream man/shape shifter.

I am a Reiki practitioner myself, so I was pleased to see the metaphysical world make an appearance in this book.

May be difficult for some animal lovers, but I promise you there is a happy ending.

I hope there is a sequel to this book. I would love to know more about Chloe's relationship with her parents, and how she continues to deal with her newfound intuitive gift. Of course, I am also looking forward to more hot sex scenes between Chloe and the "perfect" man.

~ 2 Hiss Stars ~

To Hiss or to Kiss is book one in Hidden Lines series by Katya Armock’s. I have to admit I bought this on a whim after reading a really great excerpt, plus the cover is hot and who can beat a $.99c deal. I had to push myself to finish. Sad really as this had a great concept.

Chloe our heroine has a weird ability to communicate with animals. Ok this sounds cool and it is, but then close to the end she ends up being able to talk to a dead dog. Ok so weird! As for Chloe this girl has so many issues. She avoids everything, selfish, non-trusting, self-loathing, do I need to go on. I could not connect to her and did not like her. She is one of those people we either love, hate or ignore.

Jorge our Scottish jaguar shifter what can I say except he was lacking as an Alpha male. I never felt that love I get from the Alpha males in books. He came off not dominant and I like mine to be dominant especially if they are shifters. We don’t learn much about him until 10% from the end when he finally talks about his family thou it still is not much. I could never figure out why Jorge is with Chloe or why he was trying so hard to get past her self made defenses. It’s never clear explained as to why he is so attracted to Chloe.

As the story goes the writing is POV from Chloe’s point of view. I was not impressed and the execution was not done well. I usually like POV’s, but it takes a really good author to pull this off and this one was lacking that special flow. The cover is smolderingly hot, but the story is lukewarm and lacking. Very little chemistry between Jorge and Chloe. The sex scenes are not very spicy and with the chemistry lacking it feel flat in this department. The ending was abrupt and did not feel like a real ending.

This book can be hit or miss depending on you.

HASH(0xa544b138) out of 5 stars To Hiss or to Kiss - is a miss May 15 2013

The concept was great. The delivery - not so much. I returned it for a refund after (painfully) reading only 1/4 of it.

I love shape-shifter stories with an alpha male - Jorge (our hero) is not much of an alpha & spends much of his time even avoiding the heroine's gaze. Instead of a jaguar he came across as a scared house cat.

I love the concept of telepathically communicating with animals - Chloe has an awesome talent. Too bad she strikes me as an immature, self-centered, young woman who any man would have a hard time falling in love with. Her dialog, both inner & conversational, was like nails on a chalkboard. If I'd been Naomi (Chloe's BFF) I'd have told her to grow up and then moved on to find someone more intelligent & less self-serving to eat ice-cream with.

The only part of the story I found amusing (although, again, tediously self-centered) was when Chloe got angry with Jorge, following their 1st conversation, and she walks out on him - taking his 15 y/o bottle of scotch with her. Wish I'd had some on hand. It might of helped me to plow through the remainder of the story.
