HASH(0x9aeb03f0) out of 5 stars excellent book Nov. 6 2013

Excellent book, should be mandatory reading in schools if for no other reason than it seems to me to be a balanced view of what happened during the period. It's well written and not too dry or stuffy, with all books on history there is the issue that it is the authors view and can never be an exact science. I enjoyed the book and having lived through this period and voted for every major political party I found it refreshingly close to the truth given the left wing propaganda which is prevalent regarding this period in Britain's history.

HASH(0x9acaeabc) out of 5 stars Biased inaccurate view of 1980's Britain from a pro-Tory perspective Aug. 2 2013
By ger - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is a heavily biased account of the 1980's, told from a Tory perspective. It ought to have been called 'Thatcher - her story' as every significant event in 1980's Britain - privatisation of state industry, the miner's strike, the Falklands conflict, Brixton riots, Northern Ireland - is told from a overtly sympathetic Tory viewpoint, with little or no attempt at impartiality or balance. I bought this book as I hoped it would be similar to Dominic Sandbrook's accounts of Britain in the 1960's & 1970's - it isn't. If you're a Conservative voter or a Tory grandee you'll love this book, but for readers who want a history book that isn't a Thatcher version of Mein Kampf, avoid avoid avoid.

HASH(0x9accb1f8) out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable Read May 3 2016

Fantastic book if one wants a general history of the time. There is enough detail about politics, culture, etc.to peak one's interest, however; it is not written for the reader who wants an in depth book about economic policy or the political theory of the times yet it is also not a coffee-table style book full of pictures of Princess Di and wacky punt rockers.
