I purchased my first Hitachi RB24EAP leaf blower from Amazon almost 4 years ago on September 21, 2012.

I'm happy to say that my first Hitachi leaf blower is still working great and I've purchased three (3) more of these leaf blowers, one for our lake cottage, one for my sister and one as a father's day gift for my dad.

Before purchasing this leaf blower all my leaf blowers were electric. This was my first gasoline powered leaf blower and I thought mixing gas and oil might be a hassle and more importantly I was concerned that the blower might be difficult to start, especially for my wife. As it turns out mixing gas and oil is a very simple procedure and should not prevent you from buying this leaf blower. Likewise this Hitachi leaf blower is very easy to start. The best testimonial I can give about how easy to start this leaf blower is, My wife regularly starts and uses this leaf blower without my assistance. My sister and my 78 year old father also love this leaf blower and both find this leaf blower easy to start. My wife won't mix the gas and oil, she still gets me to do that for her but as far as starting goes, when she wants to use the leaf blower she just picks it up and a couple pulls and it's good to go for her.

Performance: Yes this leaf blower is easy to start but it is equally impressive when it comes to performance. My next door neighbour has a Echo gas leaf blower and my other neighbour across the street has a Sthil gas blower. Both neighbours agree my Hitachi leaf blower is more powerful than either the Echo or Sthil mainly due to the tapered concentrator nozzle at the end of the blower tube.

This Hitachi gas blower replaces a Toro electric which had worked flawlessly for years. Dragging a cord around though, was finally causing too much frustration and I decided that gas was the only way to go. We have lots of trees plus 8 huge maples on our property and are downwind from hundreds of others. By November, we're literally buried in leaves. This year I used the blower and my riding lawn mower (with mulcher) 4 times (about 3 to 4 hours on each occasion) to clean up our yard. We use the paper bags for sticks and plant trimmings only. All of the leaves are spread onto the lawn and mulched to a fine powder with the mower.

Since I have this exact unit at our home in Florida, deciding which blower to choose from Amazon was easy. Purchasing it for $15 less than what I paid for it from Amazon.com a year ago (and in CAD $) was a no brainer. Free 2 day delivery in Canada topped it off and I knew that I had a great deal here!. The unit must have been on a super sale since I paid $124.51 on November 14, 2014. It's now $169.00. Ouch!

This unit was shipped well packed and it's light as you're likely to get in a unit of this size and power. It assembles easily but you'll need to spray a bit of WD40 or similar lubricant on the black nozzles to get them to mate as they are really tight. Once together and fitted onto the motor, they're gonna stay put. Other than that, all you need is a gas/oil mix and you're ready to fire it up.

With a full tank, I set the choke, pressed the gas primer about 8 or 9 times and pulled the cord. It started on the 3rd try and that was it. Easy! The unit runs smoothly and the noise level is about the same as my electric blower but at different frequencies. Take my advice..........

I only gave it 4 stars because this is an initial review. But first impressions do count...

Cons: Let's get this out of the way first, because there is only one, and it shouldn't detract anyone at all from purchasing this piece of equipment. It's minor. The assembly of the black tube and nozzle is the only thing you need to put together. And it was frustrating! The tolerances are super tight. If you're off by even a millimeter the tube won't fit. And its hard to twist into place because the material is slippery. But once it's locked in place...

Pros: I have a neighbour whom has a 4 stroke leaf blower. But he watched me walk down my driveway, casually carrying my 2 stroke blower, and blowing .5 cm of snow easily without me even touching the throttle - the idle speed way way powerful enough. He came over and said 'Lemme try it out', I gave him the blower, he hit the throttle full power, and snow got blown over 7 feet away. He exclaimed 'This thing is more powerful than mine! I thought I had the best one!!' I had to fight to get it back from him...

Other reviews have said that the intake can suck onto your pant leg if you are right handed. Yes, it's true. No, it's not a problem. When I first hefted it without thinking I was holding it well away from my pant leg. I can see how it could happen though - if you were very fatigued and had to rest the machine against your leg. But this thing only weighs 8 lbs, which is really darn light. When the package first came, my wife received it at the door. She lifted the box and thought it was pretty light. She was surprised when I told her over the phone it was the leaf blower.

Other reviews have said the tube is not long enough.
