HASH(0xa6513468) out of 5 stars I loved, loved, loved this story, Jan. 3 2015

A Fascinating story, and in no way your classic 'Peter Pan' fairy tale! Ms Thompson writes an amazing world filled with all the things we didn't know about Cap'n Hook... who he was and how he became captain of the Jolig Roger. The wonderful characters he meets,(old and new alike) the adventures he takes and along with a few unexpected twists we find out how he became, Hook!

The authors attention to details, and vivid descriptions, made this story come alive. A fantasy adventure, that really had me Hooked, (Yes I said it) Neverland will never look the same again.

I loved, loved, loved this story, (definitely going to the re-read shelf)and I look forward to reading more adventures in the 'Untold Stories of Neverland'

This is not your average Peter Pan Story...
I was very excited when i heard about this book. As I'm reading through the pages i am seeing myself doing alot of sitting and not moving.. I was Hooked from the first page! (No pun attended) The story is fascinating... If you ever wondered how Hook and Peter Pan came to then this is the story for you. KR explains in detail everything you may have ever wondered about Peter Pan. You get pulled and feel you are apart of her book. The detail she uses tied with her imagination will leave you wanting more. I wish they would make a movie from this book I would be the first in line buying it! I seriously want you to read this book if you can't get that from this review. . READ IT !!!!!

HASH(0xa551d744) out of 5 stars Great Story Jan. 1 2015

Hook is an interesting take on the origins of the feud between Peter Pan and Captain Hook, as told from Hook's point of view. This is not a retelling of the story of Peter Pan, but rather a sort of prequel, taking place before Wendy's arrival in Neverland.

What makes a villain? I don't want to give away any of the thrilling and shocking twists this story offers, but I will tell you that I found the story of Hook completely unexpected and compelling. The difference between a villain and a hero is often a matter of perspective, and it's always interesting to see a well known story told from a different point of view. The characters in Hook are painted in shades of gray, as all well fleshed out characters should be.

If you enjoy hearing a familiar story from a new point of view, you should definitely check out Hook.

HASH(0xa595bc00) out of 5 stars yes, I fell in love with the villain Sept. 10 2015
By Amanda Miller- A Bookaholic's Fix: Feeding the Addiction - Published on Amazon.com

I thought that Pan was brilliant but Hook blew it out of the water.

This one is much longer than Pan and it chronicles the events that lead a man named Archie to become the infamous Captain Hook. Similar to the movie Maleficent, it shows the villain doesn't necessarily start out evil and just maybe there is more to them than just being bad.

It takes a great amount of talent to make a reader feel sympathy for a character that has always been portrayed in a negative light Thompson not only made me feel sympathy for the villain but I fell in love with the man who became Hook. She gave the scourge of Neverland an incredible backstory filled with familiar characters like Smee and Tinkerbell and also some unexpected ones including Blackbeard. Through twists of fate, Archie goes from printer to pirate to captain before finding himself on the coast of an island that will forever change him.

The story was riveting; I honestly could not put it down. It definitely earned a 5-star rating. One of my favorite things about the book is the clever way the author constructed the story by taking creative liberties with the details. In this story, the man I've always heard called Captain James Hook started life as Archibald Jameson and he worked a mundane job that he hated. Then there is Hook's ship, the Jolly Roger, which was a Dutch ship named the Jolig Roger (same pronunciation just a different spelling) which was originally captured by Blackbeard. Hook's wasn't the only name the author played with; Smee is a shortened version of the surname of the ship's surgeon and Tiger Lily is a name given to the Indian girl because Archie knew he couldn't remember her real name. These are just a few ways the way the author worked the the tale around familiar details from the story. Everything from names to how a ship of pirates and a tribe of Indians ended up on Neverland was cleverly woven into this tale.

I am thoroughly impressed with these first stories and I look forward to reading more about Neverland's inhabitants. I will be watching for more of The Untold Stories of Neverland series.
