Since the bazaars in antiquity, marketing's objective has remained the same: create or increase demand for whatever is offered. What Nir Eyal offers in this book is a four-phase process by which to design habit-forming products that will attract and then sustain a tight relationship with customers.

1. A Trigger attracts consumer attention and creates initial interest such as the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee.

2. Consumer takes Action to learn more about what is offered, often by clicking on a website link or calling a toll-free number.

3. The Variable Reward offers several possibilities to attract as many different people as possible (e.g. a state lottery).

4. The last phase, Investment, illustrates that people who assemble furniture (e.g. IKEA) attach greater value to it than they would if it were already assembled.

As in residential real estate and the chestnut that suggests "for every house there's a buyer," I am convinced that, for those in need of forming and then sustaining tight customer relationships, "for every book there's a reader." Who knows? For some who read this review, the "Hook Model" may be exactly what they need.

This book is backed with academic studies and scientific experiments. It is very easy to read and I would even say it is addictive by itself, I started calling it the Hook Book. I don't have a spare time in my schedule for reading, unfortunately. I am doing that in between - on my way to to/from meetings, while brushing my teeth etc. In most cases, while reading this booked, I found myself "hooked", delaying my next obligation...

I learned a lot even though I come from the industry. I run a digital studio for 8 years and working on a habit forming product as well. I like the fact that it has action points in each chapter which readers can apply to what they are working on, making the book very practical. My team and I are working according to the principles offered.

My warm recommendation to everyone in the online industry.

Creating your breakthrough will require a mindset that relates more and more to providing solutions and how it relates to the Human Condition.
As business author and strategic thinker Nir Eyal states in his new book “Hooked”,…Align your work with a purpose that provides you with meaning and helps cultivate a meaning for others. This not only a moral imperative, it’s good business practice”
This an important axiom for all who want to remain relevant in the business world.
It is a good book and worth the investment of time to read. A good reference for along time to come.

A great book for anyone who loves the psychology that goes into building great and engaging products. Nir really hit the nail on the head with this book.

It was easy to read and gave great insight. One of the best things about the book was at the end of each chapter. While you were reading the book you had an exercise at the end of each chapter to help you with your product.

Really practical book for applying behavioural psychology to product development. Not much of the information is surprising if you have a psychology background, but the examples are incredibly memorable and relevant, and the storytelling is engaging!

A must read

I highly recommend this book to tech entrepreneurs! Nir explains the psychology behind the product design elements that attract users and keep them "hooked". More importantly, he discusses the morality of manipulation and provides a useful framework for guidance.

Bought this book after seeing Nir speak at a conference. It was as easy to read and grasp as his session was.
Enjoyed the theory and the examples were current and easy to understand.
