I bought this book when I got a job as a barista (after a seven year hiatus from the profession) and needed to brush up on my knowledge to impress the new boss! Also, I live in Nova Scotia where home espresso machines are not really available (unless you wanna pay a lot of shipping from elsewhere), and so I wanted to know how to get the most from my stovetop espresso makers and my french press. This book offers a really good intro to all the different factors that affect a coffee bean's flavour, from growing region, to drying method, to roast, to grind, to the type of brewing apparatus you're using. It has just the right amount of technical info that you can dip into if you wish or stay out of if you don't. Most importantly for me, it gives you the vocabulary tools to express what it is you want from a coffee, so when someone says "fruity, citrus" at you, you can actually understand what the hell they're talking about.

Bought this for an idiot that knows nothing about making coffee thinking it will help him turn into the office brew master. Either he is illiterate or hasn't bothered reading it. Oh well.
Great book. I learned alot from it before gifting it

I gifted this book to my husband who is a huge coffee fan and loves to cook as well. He really enjoyed reading some interesting facts/history about coffee, and even some tips on how to make better coffee.

Don't be fooled by the size of the book. This book packs more theory than any so called local cafe training offers. It is open to the public! Training that most coffee company offers are just the technical side to it. I'm a barista for 4 years, this book have open my eyes in digging deep! It's all about the details of creating art

Great book packed with wonderful information but towards the back (reading on the Kindle app on my IPad) I noticed that some of the steps (line drawings) were absent.

Una guía muy ilustrativa y completa para iniciar el medio del café. La parte histórica del café es muy buena, y tiene apoyos visuales de los tipos de métodos de extracción.
