Review

Most parents would be shocked to discover that their child doesn't feel loved. After all, we go to their school events, drive them where they want to go. How could they not feel loved? And yet, the top issue among children and the source of most childhood challenges is just that, not feeling completely and unconditionally loved by their parents.

Product Description

Even parents who deeply love their teen don’t always know how to express that love in a way that makes their teen feel loved and accepted. In How to Really Love Your Teen, Dr. Campbell  helps you create a balanced approach to parenting in the teen years. The skills you learn in this book will help you:

•    Communicate unconditional love
•    Handle teenage anger … and your own
•    Deal with adolescent depression
•    Establish loving communication even when your teen shuts down
•    Help your teenager grow spiritually

As you learn to love your teen in ways he or she can receive, you’ll be amazed at the joy the teenage years can bring.

The late Dr. Ross Campbell served thousands of families in his three decades as a counselor. He authored several books, including the international bestseller How to Really Love Your Child and The Five Love Languages of Children (coauthored with Gary Chapman), and wrote extensively on helping children deal with anger.

HASH(0xa0f78924) out of 5 stars Good stuff for parents with teenagers! March 8 2016

Until my wife and I suddenly found ourselves living under the same roof with two suddenly complicated young teenagers, I didn't imagine that a book of this title would be of much interest. As it turns out, I found it a gripping read, full of very sound advice and very helpful in every way.

I really appreciated the author's professionalism, clearly a very accomplished counselor, doctor and father of grown children who turned out well! Highly recommended for all parents as this is a really balanced and helpful book on beinga better parent. I'm already dipping into it a second time.

What's there to say; it's wisdom written in book form. Great reminders for parents to be in tune to what's in their lives. The key? Don't get sooo busy in your own life that you can't pay attention to your kid(s) life. Stay-at-home moms rock if they can do it...it may mean not being about to buy fancy things, but it needs to happen.

For those who thought it was too preachy, you need to keep reading. The first few chapters don't have much practical advice (I kept asking myself, yes I know that, but HOW do I do that?). Tthe rest of the book has good information and the practical application I was looking for.

I loved and was helped so much by reading How to Really Love Your Child that I continued on to read How to Really Love Your Teen. My children were still very young, and the concepts taught in this book did not apply to my experience. Years later when my children were adolescents, I phoned an early childhood educator friend of mine lamenting the stressors of that time. Linda recommended the book How to Really Love Your Teen. I replied that I had read the book years ago and did not find it relevant to my parenting experience. Linda replied, "Read it again!" I did and found SO MUCH HELP for those turbulent years. If you have never read Dr. Ross Campbell's books, my recommendation is to read them all! They are chock full of very helpful and useful information that will help you to enjoy parenting and raise wonderful, sensitive, caring children. Highly, highly recommend!
