Product Description

Product Description

Brian doesn’t sell used cars. He sells quality pre-owned vehicles. Like many salesmen, he doesn't own a car but borrows various autos from the lot. After spending the night with his girlfriend, he goes outside to warm his ride and Cirrus, a garbage man slash ex-con, deserts his trash route and steals the idling BMW. Brian can’t call the law for help because his girlfriend is married to a local police detective. Rather than betray his paramour’s secret, he sets out on foot to recover the car using his own wits and resources.

Danielle Perez: "This was a fun and punchy read, where the crimes are over-the-top and the characters are likeable despite being morally bankrupt.”

Also available by Sam Stone: Ring A Ding, The Hollywood Doll, Sunset Slam

Great characters. Lots of double crosses and unexpected outcomes. The main characters seemed real to life. Read it and enjoy

HASH(0xa511ca44) out of 5 stars Enjoyable Story - non-stop fun March 15 2011

Format: Kindle Edition
The author tells a thrilling story about a used car salesman and a career criminal and their attempt to retrieve something that belongs to each of them. This was my first Kindle purchase and I was not disappointed. At the same time I downloaded Humdinger, I was also reading Michael Crichton's "State of Fear." After reading parts of both, I put down the Crichton book to finish Humdinger. Each character seemed to have their own sinister twist and I loved the pop music and TV references from the md 80's/early 90's. The story had a great ending and I hope a sequel is published so that the story continues. I really didn't want this one to end.

HASH(0xa511ca98) out of 5 stars a fast, fun ride March 13 2011

This kindle book was recommended by a friend. If you enjoy the rhythm of Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, James W Hall... Humdinger is for you. The pace of the plot, the interesting mix of characters and the tonal shifts between darkness and humour all combined to hold my interest... Look forward to reading more by this author.

HASH(0xa511ced0) out of 5 stars Exceptionally Entertaining Aug. 10 2011

I often find it tiresome reading the same authors again and again. While perusing possible next reads on Amazon, I came across Humdinger by Sam Stone. Always leery of books with only a few great reviews, I decided to download a sample before purchasing. There was no doubt in my mind after finishing the preview that I would race thru the balance of this book. The tale of Brian, a used car salesman in search of justice for the theft of his car, was exceptionally entertaining. The characters, while being quite different from each other, somehow fit together in a very believable way. The story moved at a rapid pace with added twists that never took the adventure off course.

This was such a great book. I came across this book on whim and I am glad I did. I found myself picking this book up at 4:30 in the morning to see what would happen next. From the very beginning of the book to the end, this author was engaging and very realistic. Makes you think twice about the company you keep!

HASH(0xa25c0294) out of 5 stars Quentin Tarantino Should Take Notice March 26 2012

This book deserves a longer review, but I figured it would be better to put something short out there than never actually getting to it.

What can I say? The story, the writing, is just plain GOOD. I picked this one up while searching for Elmore Leonard books, as I have been slowly reading through his collection over the last couple decades. Leonard fans will be right at home with Sam Stone.

As the title of my review implies, Humdinger has movie written all over it. But for now, I can only hope for more books from this author. After this one, I grabbed Ring A Ding and The Hollywood Doll. Definitely looking forward to more.
