Product Description

Gon and his friends Leorio and Kurapika have more to worry about than just the Hunter Exam--their fellow applicants are deadly serious. Hisoka, the mad magician, nearly kills them in a mock test and Killua reveals that appearances can be deceiving.

Then there are the tests, which prove to be as varied as they are difficult. The picky proctors of the second exam demand the applicants perform culinary feats of wonder, and it takes the intervention of the President of the Hunter Association Review Board to convince them to let anyone pass at all!

By EA Solinas HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on June 6 2009
Format: Paperback
"Hunter X Hunter, Volume 2" ups the ante a bit, as Gon and his friends continue to wade through the deadly Hunter Exam. Most of the second volume of Yoshihiro Togashi's bestselling manga is taken up by less-than-lethal brands of fighting -- including an unorthodox ball game and a cooking competition -- but it starts picking up and getting darker as the applicants reach the third phase.

Hisoka attacks Leorio and Kurapika, as part of his examiner game -- but when he tries to kill Leorio, Gon appears and attacks him. Surprisingly Hisoka is intrigued by Gon's attitude, and announces that he and Leorio have "passed."

They all barely arrive in time for the next phase, in which a pair of gourmet Hunters demand satisfaction before they'll let anyone pass. The vast Buharo is relatively easy to please: all they need to do is kill and roast giant aggressive superpigs for his dining pleasure. But Menchi presents them with a pretty steep challenge: make perfect hand-molded sushi, despite almost none of them knowing the first thing about it. Of course, it's a complete disaster.

In fact, things get so bad that the Commissioner has to step in to mediate the situation, and find some way of keeping Menchi from failing them all. And on the way to the third phase, Gon and Killua are presented with a unique ball game by the Commissioner -- if they manage to get the ball away, he'll give them Hunter licenses. But there's a much nastier challenge waiting for them at the vast tower where the third phase takes place...

I'm a huge fan of Hunter X Hunter ever since I heard Togashi did another series after YuYu Hakusho. It has a fantastically interesting story and wonderful characters, and book starts building up the great fun of the Hunter Exam Arc!

This is where the first phase of the hunter exam comes to a close and it also showcases the the second phase and the first half of the third phase. This volume has a great close-up on Hisoka and shows more detail on fan-favorite characters like Killua, Netero, Menchi and Buhara. The brain power that the author uses for each chapter is astonishing! Must-buy!

What made me angry is when i got this i looked at the side and something thing is wrong with the book cutter they used so i got one of the scrap books that don't get sold at stores and other retailers. The side of the book was half on the back. But i love this series and i give the series 5 star but not the book
HASH(0x9fbe6fb4) out of 5 stars more hunter please :) May 16 2012

continues the hunter exam from where the last volume had left off. the author has a very unique way of presenting challenges to the protagonist:running competition which turns deadly as soon as they enter a forest with dangerous traps.Using the majority rule to make decisions on a dungeon trail.

For some the hunter exam might be a bit long and tedious, but trust me once it is over, this story will get complexed as it goes along. That much i will say as to not spoil too much.
HASH(0x9fc2df54) out of 5 stars Enter Hisoka up close! Sept. 17 2013
By Kathryn E. Fox - Published on Amazon.com

Volume Two gets up close to Hisoka, our scary (cool) main villain for the Hunter Exam arc.
Then, continues as we make our way through the Hunter tests. I completely never saw the ____ test coming :-)

I don't want to spoil the surprise if you haven't seen it yet in the other reviews lol
