HASH(0xa5cde4d4) out of 5 stars Book on Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi Aug. 5 2012
By Jerry - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast just six weeks prior to the arrival of Hurricane Katrina. The book is well researched and well written. As a matter of fact, it is one of those books that you sometimes hear people describe as being hard to put down once you start reading. at least that was true for me. The book describes
the great destruction and damage to property, the loss of human life, and the spirit of the people as they picked up the pieces and started the recovery process. The recovery process still goes on to this day and the author is to be commended for sharing Mississippi's story.

HASH(0xa5cde720) out of 5 stars oral histories are the best- this is great June 13 2012
By David - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a fascinating collection, which describes how people were affected by Katrina far better than the dry reports one read in the news. Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed America is a particularly good book, on an earlier storm, which also uses some oral history. When I was in training, for my job, they used to say you don't understand anything until you hear the "war stories". Here is the Katrina "war story".

HASH(0xa5cde960) out of 5 stars Hurricane Katrina The Mississippi Story Nov. 13 2012

Finally a story about Mississippi (that land mass between Alabama and Louisiana) I know that New Orleans was devestated by Katrina but the media forgot about the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast. Who may I remind you, plulled up their boots and moved on! Thank you for sharing the Mississippi side!

Oral stories are a very useful part of history. This is a good collection of same. I wish historians did more stuff like this, it really brings news headlines into perspective.
HASH(0xa5cdeed0) out of 5 stars Excellent & Well Researched Book! Aug. 23 2014

Fascinating . . . This excellent & well researched book provides an insightful report on Katrina & her aftermath. The human condition is sensitively revealed while the technical & financial aspects of pre storm preparedness & post storm recovery are provided in a readable & interesting manner.

Five days after Katrina, with the assistance of friends, I traveled from Washington State via Tampa to Gulfport, MS where we assisted family & friends in the recovery effort. "Hurricane Katrina: The Mississippi Story" echoes our experiences and also answers many of our questions . . . James Patterson Smith . . . Thank You!!
