A 2015 Rainbow List Selection

"All young people—regardless of difference—deserve the things Jazz shares in her lovely book: a loving family, supportive friends, and the freedom to be their true selves. A beautifully illustrated and accessible primer on one trans girl's journey of living her truth."—Janet Mock, New York Times bestselling author of Redefining Realness

"I wish I had had a book like this when I was a kid struggling with gender identity questions. I found it deeply moving in its simplicity and honesty."—Laverne Cox, acclaimed actress and transgender advocate

"Jazz is a sensitive and courageous young woman. Her story is inspiring and important to read. By sharing her experiences and view she has added to our understanding and compassion for the transgender experience."—Barbara Walters

"A terrific and timely book that explains to kids what it means to be transgender and—more importantly—that reminds kids our similarities are much more important than our differences."—Jodi Picoult, New York Times bestselling author of The Storyteller and Between the Lines

I Am Jazz is honest, inspiring, and beautiful—but its greatest strength is it never apologizes for being different.”—Brad Meltzer, New York Times bestselling author of I Am Amelia Earhart

Issues surrounding Transgender Individuals have been of an interest to me for a while now as I spent a lot of time researching so I could understand myself; I am often the "go to" guy when it comes to discussing these issues with adolescents (I am a 7-12 Math Teacher) but now I have my own baby on the way and was unsure how to talk about this with a child. This book was just what I was looking for and was actually the first thing I actually but for my child on my own. The price point was a little high, otherwise this would be a 5-star purchase.

Important book for elementary schools to have in their libraries. Jazz is a very courageous youth, who is well deserving to be on Time's list of the Most Influential teens.

I may be missing something here. Why are the illustrations of a white girl when Jazz is a person of colour? In applauding and educating on trans visibility have they completely forgot about racism and how positive role models are also needed for our non white children. I was very disappointed by this. If this was unintentionally overlooked the seat of internalized racism is certainly deep.

An excellent resource for a school counsellor's office for explaining transgender to younger students.
