I thought the best part of the book was Clarke's extrapolation of trends into the future. In some cases, he's right on the money, if two centuries late: HMS Titanic nostalgia, PCs, a sort of interplanetary internet, human cloning, disintegration of nation states, and the utter failure of the SETI program.
The sections describing the interplanetary propulsion system, and its occasionally explosive development, was worth the price of admission.
The descriptions of life on the moon Titan will have to wait for the culmination of the Cassini/Huygens mission for a reality-check. I suspect he'll be closer than anyone would have imagined. (2006! Where's Clarke's asymptotic drive when we need it!)

An epic exploration of life as it can be in a solar system that covers the planets and moons man could inhabit.Published 4 months ago by Dugald Stewart
Amazon wants me to pre-order this book supposedly due out from the publisher in 2030?
Lol, that's one heck of a wait!
